Having bowed out in the first round of the CDL Kickoff Classic, Los Angeles Guerrillas' new signing Peirce "Gunless" Hillman has slammed the event, calling it 'meaningless'.

Los Angeles Guerrillas' season started in the way that it finished last year, despite a revamped roster that was tipped to be a steadied ship going into the third CDL venture. Having been the first team to take to the stage at the Kickoff Classic pre-season curtain-raiser, the new faces of LAG left with their hoods up - covering faces - as they were put to the sword by Florida Mutineers. Shortly after their 1-3 loss, Gunless took to social media to express his frustration, taking it out on the league's warm-up event.

Gunless Brands CDL Kickoff As 'Meaningless'

Following their exit, Gunless hit out at the event, claiming that the event means "nothing", and is simply a gimmick to help iron out any creases before the start of the season.

Taking to Twitter, the former Chicago Huntsmen man said, "this event legit means nothing and is being used to find all the bugs and problems that plague our game so it doesn’t happen during the real season."

He continued to debate with Apicella, the co-founder of Esports Engine and former Call of Duty Esports employee, adding, "I’m just telling the truth that this event is being used to fix ALOT of problems that our game has."

Gunless' established career has seen him land on top-quality rosters such as the Huntsmen and the 2016-17 eUnited side that won the CWL Atlanta Open.

Toronto Ultra Win CDL Kickoff Classic

Kicking on from LAG's loss on the off-field antics, the CDL Kickoff Classic didn't disappoint, despite a smaller $30,000 prize. First glimpses at reigning champions Atlanta FaZe and the highly anticipated OpTic Texas roster both ended in shock defeats, as Seattle Surge and LA Thieves took the respective victories.

Surge stunned fans the most, making their first Grand Final since the CDL was introduced and the organisation was formed, although their fresh young roster fell just short in the end. A rampant Toronto Ultra roster ended up proving too good, taking home another trophy for their growing collection.

With Ultra flying high already, could this be the season that they can finally get their hands on the first place medals and be crowned as CDL 2022 Champions?
