Grand Theft Auto 6 has sold an estimated 7.71 million copies in pre-orders, according to analytics firm Sensor Tower, and it's still got two whole weeks to go before it launches.
The figure comes from Sensor Tower's weekly GTA 6 sales tracker, which puts the game's pre-order revenue at around $751 million ahead of its November 19 release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
How many copies has GTA 6 sold on PS5 and Xbox?
PlayStation is doing most of the heavy lifting, as Sensor Tower estimates 5.74 million pre-orders on PS5 compared with 1.97 million on Xbox Series X|S, a split of roughly 74% to 26% that has barely moved in weeks. That works out at around $559 million on PS5 and $192 million on Xbox.
The game also picked up an estimated 790,000 new pre-orders in the past week alone, up from 470,000 the week before, which suggests the hype train is speeding up as launch gets closer rather than running out of steam.
Is GTA 6 about to break the pre-order record?
It's looking very likely, as Cyberpunk 2077 is usually held up as the benchmark after CD Projekt said it passed 8 million pre-orders just before launch in 2020, and GTA 6 is now within touching distance with a fortnight still left on the clock. Sensor Tower's own projection goes much further, suggesting the game could reach as many as 25 million pre-orders by launch day.
Take these numbers with a pinch of salt (a small pinch)
These are third-party estimates rather than official figures, as neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has shared any sales numbers, and Sensor Tower's tracker covers digital pre-orders, so physical copies bought from shops aren't counted at all. In other words, the real total could be quite a bit higher.
If you've already pre-ordered, pre-loading opens on November 10 and you'll need up to 212GB of free space, so we've put together everything you need to know about the GTA 6 pre-load.
Well, at this rate Leonida might need a bigger welcome sign.
