It almost feels like the Gears series is about to get a rebirth of sorts. The shooter series has been quiet ever since the launch of Gears 5, but thankfully, it's not the games that fans are most excited about.

There are deals to adapt the franchise into shows and movies at Netflix, spurring hopes that Dave Bautista will be the new face of Gears

While this all happens, there is still the core of the series to focus on - and gamers are hoping that the Netflix projects will inject life into the series once again. But, it turns out we might be waiting a while for the inevitable Gears 6.

JD Fenix doesn't know anything about Gears 6

Though fans are hoping for a return to the series after the Game Pass success of Gears 5, it sounds like we could be waiting for some time, as one of the game's core voice actors hasn't heard much about a sequel.

Liam McIntyre is our current voice for JD Fenix, but has revealed in a conversation with Dexerto that he doesn't know much about it. "I haven’t heard anything! And that's genuine," says McIntrye. "Like it's not even one of those 'I've got an NDA I can't tell you.'"

"I'm like, where we at? [...] I don’t know whether or not they're like 'we're about to finish production and I'm sorry you were not the canon choice.'" Of course, the end of Gears 5 gives the option to continue without JD, so it's possible he's not in Gears 6.

Liam McIntyre talks Gears movie casting

McIntyre is still invested in the world of Gears and mentions the potential casting choices that lie in wait for the live-action adaptation. Sadly, he suggests he's not likely to be in the running to return to the role in real life.

"I'm gonna make peace with the fact that if they make JD in the live-action they'll probably pick Liam Hemsworth or something like that," he adds. "There is no world where they are not going to take Dave Bautista [as Marcus]."

So, it looks like Gears 6 might not be as close as we'd hoped, and we don't have much to go on for the movie. To be honest, it's a bit of a sordid update, but here's hoping that McIntyre gets to return to the Fenix family soon.
