A team of devs who previously worked on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 has given us a closer look at Dawnwalker, sparking theories Rebel Wolves' game is a secret vampire title.

When it comes to having impressive credentials on your CV, boasting a developer like CD Projekt Red is pretty unrivalled. The team behind the Witcher games is the stuff of legends, and while Cyberpunk 2077 had a shaky start, it's finally living up to its potential as an imaginative sci-fi shooter/RPG.
Now, a group of devs who worked on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 are turning their attention to a brand-new IP. Witcher 3 Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz launched Rebel Wolves as a new studio in February 2022, and while things have been quiet since, we've got a cryptic tease of the first project.
Dawnwalker shows off vampire-esque concept art
PC Gamer has shared a look at the game's concept art, which continues the themes of "strong vampire vibes" that the site theorised about when Rebel Wolves was announced. It looks like we're opening up the crypt of theories again, as the latest promo art fans the flames of a blood-sucking outing.
Named Dawnwalker, the clue is in the name that Rebel Wolves is raising the 'stakes' here. Set against a blood-red background, we see a figure forming out of the smoke, suggesting that they're a vampire. However, with a sword raised high, we guess they'll also be a vampire hunter themselves.
Following the critical panning of Redfall and V Rising flying under the radar for many, vampire games aren't exactly as popular as zombies right now. Still, with Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 coming in 2024 and Arkane Lyon's Blade also over the horizon, the genre is set for a renaissance.
What do we know about the Dawnwalker?
Tomaszkiewicz has hyped the Warsaw-based studio and explained how he "envisioned a new studio with a united goal of doing things differently while also putting the team first at all times." Konrad has recently been joined by brother Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, who served as Lead Quest Designer on The Witcher 3.
The mysterious figure on the Dawnwalker poster gives us some strong Geralt of Rivia vibes, and with Tomaszkiewicz's work on Wild Hunt, we'd imagine there's a sense of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." As Wild Hunt is pretty universally held as the best Witcher game, giving it a vampiric reskin would be popular.
The Rebel Wolves website says Dawnwalker is "our own AAA IP, dark fantasy RPG" and is tipped to be the first chapter in a planned series. It's supposedly in the "alpha stage of development," with Rebel Wolves planning to reveal more later in 2024.
