Ex Blizzard devs' Stormgate stars Simu Liu and features Chris Metzen story
Stormgate has been one to watch for a while now, what with Frost Giant Studios taking the helm. The studio, helmed by former Starcraft devs got fans plenty excited with the reveal of a brand new RTS that hopes to do something new and exciting, but even if the game borrowed more from Starcraft than it abandoned, players would be massively satisfied.
We've still got plenty to learn about the RTS itself, and as new classes are drip-fed to players, they're only getting more excited. With a new look at the game’s story during The Game Awards, we're more ready for the game to touch down than ever.
Simu Liu introduces Stormgate's new character, Warz
Taking to the stage at The Game Awards, Simu Liu has just revealed that he'll be playing a character central to Stormgate called Warz. Aside from the name being incredibly fitting, Warz is an Infernal leader who will be important in the story.
To the shock of many fans, Stormgate has been written in part by Chris Metzen, a key member of the team at StarCraft, Diablo, and Warcraft. The story has been put together by Metzen and the New York Times bestselling author Micky Neilson, meaning we're in for a real treat in the narrative department.
We also got another look at the RTS gameplay of Stormgate, which has been described by critics as very StarCraft-adjacent - so if you've been praying for a third entry in the long-standing series, you may be best off looking to Frost Giant.
Stormgate is in its closed beta
As of right now, the game is in its testing stages - unfortunately, though, it's taking place behind closed doors. Lucky players are taking it for a spin with three players in a squad versus NPCs, and while there's not a lot that you can do to get involved, it could be foreshadowing a potential upcoming open beta.
The RTS has been in the works for some time now, and it's no shock to see that fans are itching to get their hands on it. Who knows - maybe a release date announcement is just around the corner.
