The coronavirus pandemic has claimed another victim as ESL One: Rio 2020 has officially been postponed. This is a big disruption to Counter-Strike and will be the first time since 2013 that we're left without a major.

According to ESL, the 2020 Counter-Strike Major Championship, ESL One: Rio, has been postponed due to COVID-19. Although it's a blow to fans of the game, both Valve and ESL have vowed to bring it back to Rio when they can.

This is the second time ESL One: Rio has been delayed. After the competition was shifted from its original date in May, things were rescheduled to November. With no sign of the COVID-19 pandemic slowing down, all parties have decided to push things back again.

In a statement, ESL added, "While Valve is currently not able to say when and how Majors will return, as soon as they do we'll work to bring the Major to Rio. New dates will be announced once a return for an in-arena Major is safe for everyone involved".

Anyone who bought tickets will have them transferred to the next date, however, you can also request a refund via your Eventbrite account. We'll give you more information on what happens to ESL One: Rio 2020 when we can.
