The Elden Ring experience hinges - for the most part - on your Tarnished growing stronger with every boss felled. And even though your build and other assorted kit has a lot to do with that strength, you'll struggle to make it in The Lands Between without runes - the in-game currency used to upgrade your abilities.

As such, fans have discovered Elden Ring rune farms along the way in an attempt to boost their abilities and level up quickly. Sadly, one player's gallant mission to earn an obscene amount of Runes with these farms has ended in calamity.

What Happened To On Player's Elden Ring Rune Farm?

A dedicated Elden Ring fan set off on a journey to bag themselves a billion runes, which has cost them about 55 hours of their life taking on rune farms.

The video shared to the Elden Ring subreddit by user FSFreeman shows the very end of their long and arduous journey… but it ends in disaster. FromSoftware isn't exactly fond of Elden Ring rune farms, so we guess Hidetaka Miyazaki is chuckling in his Souls-like castle right now.

As discovered by this player's efforts to make a billion runes, the game's rune counter only goes so far as 999,999,999. Carrying one billion runes is literally impossible in the game, and it took 55 hours of farming to make this discovery. Devastating.

Fans React To Chaotic Rune Collection

Fans have reacted to the devastating run that came to an end in the least satisfying way, and they all seem to share the original poster's pain. "I love the moment of desperate denial," says one comment. "'Haha wow, it went to exactly 999,999,999, that's amazing. If I kill one more enemy I'll surely hit a billion.'"

"You're lucky that just didn't roll over back to 0," says another comment, and to be fair, they're right - it'd be an incredible troll on behalf of FromSoft if that was the case. The doomed rune run is all the more painful knowing how much effort went into it, and that the final number simply can't be seen. The absolute satisfaction of having one billion runes is officially off-limits. Damn you, Miyazaki.
