The day is finally here. After months and months of waiting, Elden Ring has arrived. And we are ecstatic.
The fantasy adventure has been a long time coming, with FromSoftware's latest outing being touted as the ultimate Soulslike experience, with a dense world conceived by George R. R. Martin and directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, it's shaping up to be something special. And judging by the game's reviews, it's clear that for the first time in a very long time, the hype train has been justified at every turn.
Yet, there's a problem. Performance is a big part of the Soulslike experience, and it looks like the game might not be landing on the sturdiest footing when it comes to the latest consoles.
Elden Ring Is Having Performance Issues On New-Gen Consoles
Ah. Not such a good start, then.
It looks like Elden Ring is stumbling over itself upon launch, as the game is suffering from some jitters on day one. Players are reporting some early performance issues, with both of the game's graphical options seemingly struggling to keep up with the game's expansive world.
Neither options seem to be reaching the game's expected 60 frames per second, and in fact, it has been recommended that players on new-gen consoles should, until a patch fixes the problem, be playing Elden Ring on its PS4 or Xbox One version. Yikes.
This isn't a particularly good look, especially as a heightened framerate is something that Soulslike fans cherish due to the game's requirement for quick reaction times.
What Version Of Elden Ring Should I Play?
It is expected that a new patch will be on its way to iron out these performance issues, but until then, players on consoles have a big decision to make.
It has been recommended that if a player is more focussed on frame rate to make sure they don't miss a single frame in the big boss fights, they should play the last-gen version of the game via backwards compatibility if possible - however, if you want to soak up The Lands Between in all of its glory, stick to the new-gen version and wait on the patch.
It's certainly not ideal, as players have been waiting a very long time for the ultimate FromSoftware experience - but don't worry, the cavalry is on the way.
