Since Stranger Things, D&D has become cool for the first time in its many years, and god, are we grateful.

The tabletop franchise has made way for some incredible memories across the globe, and as pop culture embraces it completely, it only makes sense that video games based on the stories told by Dungeons & Dragons would do well. We couldn’t expect the level of success that Baldur’s Gate 3 has enjoyed, though.

The behemoth RPG has taken over the gaming world and proved that even small teams can challenge the gaming giants - but its appearance on Xbox is still yet to come, and as Christmas peeks over the horizon, fans are wondering if it can really pull off the 2023 release it’s been aiming for.

And we’ve finally had some renewed hope.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is still coming to Xbox this year, apparently

Don’t panic, D&D fans of the Xbox clan - all hope is not lost.

According to one team member at Larian Studios, progress is picking up behind the scenes on the Xbox port of Baldur’s Gate, and it looks as though it could still reach its now tight deadline of landing on the console before the end of the year.

Latest on the Xbox [port],” says Swen Vincke on Twitter. “being actively playtested, still on schedule for this year. We'll announce the exact release date when we're sure it's done.”

It certainly seems like a tall order, but given how hard Larian has pushed on Baldur’s Gate 3 overall, maybe we’re underestimating their talents.

Will crossplay come to Baldur’s Gate 3?

One of the biggest items on fan wishlists now that Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming to console is the chance to experience it with crossplay, allowing players to pick up their existing adventures on the new console.

As of right now, there’s no word on if it’ll actually appear in the port of the game, but fans aren’t giving up hope just yet - after all, there are plenty of expected patches to come, so who’s to say that crossplay won’t be among the new changes?

Either way, we can get excited for a new Baldur’s Gate adventure on Xbox by the time the year is out. If there’s anything we don’t need, it’s an excuse to get lost for hundreds of hours all over again - but we’re definitely going to take it.
