For those who couldn't wait to rip open their copy of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red's long-awaited sci-fi shooter has proved to be one of the most divisive games in living memory. Despite critiques that the game shouldn't have been released in its current form and was never made for consoles, there are still plenty of players who are loving the title. The general consensus is Cyberpunk 2077 looks just as beautiful as it was promised on PC, meaning gamers can enjoy Night City in all its neon glory.

As we head into the various seedy bars, strip clubs, and underground gang hideouts of the six distinct districts, players have uncovered a treasure trove of Easter eggs. Following the discovery of an Elon Musk cameo and likeness of Hideo Kojima out there in the open world of Cyberpunk 2077, fans have also found a Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Easter egg.

Cyberpunk 2077 GTA: San Andreas Easter Egg what is it?

Heading into the heart of Night City, redditor u/Spacer1997 encouraged players to find the Cyberpunk 2077 GTA: San Andreas Easter egg near River's trailer on "the train tracks heading east". This in itself is its own homage to the fan-favourite "Wrong Side of the Tracks" mission from San Andreas. Players will be able to find a journal entry (known as a shard) with dialogue between two characters known as Little Smoke and JC. in GTA: San Andreas, the main character was CJ and the villain was Big Smoke.

During the exchange, Little Smoke and JC were chasing a moving train and struggling to keep pace. In Cyberpunk 2077, it sounds like JC met a grisly fate and was wiped out by a train coming in the opposite direction. Cue Little Smoke saying, "All you had to do was follow the damn train, JC!". It's a clever take on the now infamous line of Big Smoke shouting, "All you had to do was follow the damn train, CJ", in San Andreas

Cyberpunk 2077 GTA: San Andreas Easter egg: Are there more?

While both Little Smoke and JC have met their maker in Cyberpunk 2077, they'll find a new lease of life now we know where to find them. If a reference to "Wrong Side of the Tracks" wasn't enough, there's also a half-eaten burger next to his bloody corpse. For those up on their San Adreas, Big Smoke is remembered for his colossal burger order, which even became its own meme.

Other major video games and pop culture references can be found littered around Cyberpunk 2077. As well as a hotel being named after Blade Runner's villainous Roy Batty, there's Sam's Bridge Baby unit from Death Stranding, and Geralt of Rivia's horse, Roach, from The Witcher. Still, the Cyberpunk 2077 GTA: San Andreas Easter egg is one of the most niche we've seen.

Back in 2004, GTA: San Andreas was released as the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Vice City. Set in the year 1992, the story followed CJ Johson as he was dragged back into the drugs and gang warfare of the fictional San Andreas. Cited as one of the best video games of all time, San Andreas is also remembered for Samuel L. Jackson's legendary performance as the corrupt Officer Frank Tenpenny. With San Andreas being a typically massive entry in the long-running GTA series, it's no surprise CD Projekt Red has honoured it in Cyberpunk 2077
