Maps are one of the most significant aspects of any Call of Duty title, meaning it's key there's a good variety when it comes to their size, verticality, appearance, and layout.
Despite this, it never takes the CoD community long to decide which maps they love and which ones they'd rather avoid - we're looking at you, Santa Sena Border Crossing.
In Modern Warfare 2 you have to play the next map on rotation, and it's completely random which location is chosen for a lobby. That wasn't always the case, with past CoD games giving players the option to "vote to skip." Now, the community want that feature re-added in Modern Warfare 3.
Call of Duty players want map voting back in MW3
Taking to Twitter on July 6, popular Call of Duty account ModernWarzone declared that map voting should come back in future titles.
The tweet has received over 9,000 likes at the time of writing, with overwhelming support from fans. One user claimed it would be "such a great little addition that would make players happy."
A lot of fans are just confused why the feature was ever removed in the first place, arguing they'll "never understand why this was taken out." It's clear the community appreciated having the extra level of choice in the lobby, and it meant that fan-favourite maps were playable more often.
Why was map voting removed from CoD?
While map voting certainly had a huge list of positives, there was a reason why the feature was removed. Although it meant popular maps were chosen more often, certain locations would be frequently skipped, meaning they were rarely available to play.
With so much work going into CoD map, devs clearly don't want the community only experiencing a small portion of the map pool, so they opted to remove voting.
Although there's a chance this feature comes back in MW3 or Call of Duty 2023 if there are enough requests, it seems unlikely. After all Infinity Ward will want every single one of their maps to be used.
