Call of Duty leaks are beginning to spring, and frankly, we can't help but be intrigued. The franchise is in an odd place right now, with claims of the series skipping a year being shot down by Activision and suggestions of Xbox exclusivity being denied with similar ferocity.

We simply don't know what's next for Call of Duty. Except, of course, that 2022's title is a sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare reboot. And now, as leaks begin to appear, we've got an idea of what could be on the way - including a totally revamped multiplayer experience.

SBMM Could Be Fixed For Modern Warfare 2

A fresh report has suggested that the Skill-Based Matchmaking that so many competitive Call of Duty players utterly loathe could be seeing a complete ground-up rework. If this is the case, it's apparently in order to improve the online multiplayer experience.

A leak from RalphsValve has hinted that the matchmaking system could be getting some big changes. "Despite plans for revising Modern Warfare II's SBMM," begins the leaker, "Disbanding Lobby's [sic] are supposedly here to stay for all future Premium Call of Duty titles".

It's not much of a suggestion about how the new system will work, but at least it's the hint we need to conclude that SBMM could be brought back to a comfortable place in the Call of Duty franchise.

Why Do Call Of Duty Players Hate SBMM?

Call Of Duty SBMM Could Finally Be Reworked In Modern Warfare 2

Skill-based matchmaking has been a hotly contested feature in Call of Duty, as though it pits players against others with similar abilities, it saps the game of its sense of community.

Pulling players out of games after every match in order to rebalance skill levels and introduce new players takes away the opportunity for players to make friends, enemies, and in-game rivals.

The community has taken a pretty severe hit in the process, and as it seems that disbanding lobbies are here to stay, it looks like it might not get a fix for a while. You might remember when Call of Duty: Warzone was accused of having pay-to-win SBMM, so it's clear something has to change.

It's sad to see how the game's community has suffered as a result of SBMM, but who knows - this new change could make the multiplayer mode a little easier to stomach for those who hate it so ardently.
