Zombies fans have had it rough recently.
Though Black Ops Cold War's undead offerings were surprisingly good fun for a mode so far into its life, Vanguard was unable to keep up the momentum.
The mode's first map was uninspired, dull and gave fans nothing to do, and no reason to come back. Vanguard's Zombies mode, though it came with fascinating concepts, has left the dedicated Call of Duty fanbase a little run down, and they've been praying that the next map would bring it back around.
But, sadly, it doesn't look as though it has.
Zombies Fans Hate The New Map
Fans have taken to Reddit to lambast the new Zombies map, slating it for failing to follow through on the lingering hype for the mode.
A huge post was set up on the CODZombies subreddit as a hub for information, full of details on how to acquire the new wonder weapon, complete the story quest and more - and the comments are lit up with fury from fans.
Players are roasting a lacklustre story, boring wonder weapon, short easter egg, and it doesn't even end there. Zombies fans have been waiting for something fresh to jump back in with, but it's clear that Terra Maledicta isn't it. Sorry.
Fans React To Terra Maledicta
Some of the comments on the original post are scathing, and proof that Zombies fans simply aren't getting what they need from the mode.
"Waited 3 months for a EE [sic] that takes 30 min tops, an extremely disappointing wonder weapon and the 'new' ability that they advertised is just healing aura from BOCW… it's an absolute dumpster fire," says one comment.
"I admit it's better than the first map but I feel like Zombies needs a complete overhaul," says another reply. "I hate the portals, I hate half the objectives, [...] I love making Zombie videos but there is no mystery to this game."
Zombies is a long way from its glory days, and fans are feeling the sting. It's sad that the mode is struggling so much, but it's something we might have to reconcile with. Zombies might be done for, and we're just going to have to be okay with it. Though truth be told, we're not.
