Call of Duty players claim shotguns are useless in Warzone 2

Warzone 2 players claim shotguns are now 'useless' in close-range gunfights after multiple nerfs, meaning it's 'pointless' adding them to your loadouts.

Shotguns have always been polarising within the Call of Duty community due to their overwhelming power at close-range. This has been no different in Warzone 2, with the KV Broadside effectively taking over the meta for months, before being heavily nerfed in Season 2 Reloaded.

Despite this, some Warzone 2 players believe the devs may have gone too far and rendered the entire class "useless" when compared to SMGs.

Although shotguns are built for face-to-face combat, most of them can't one-shot a foe at close range, and a result, are being labelled as "pointless" guns in the current meta.

Warzone 2 players slam shotguns for being 'useless'

Taking to the CODWarzone subreddit, user Academic_Pirate posted a clip demonstrating the power of a shotgun compared to an SMG at close-range. Equipped with the Expedite 12, they landed a direct shot on an opponent at point-blank range. Still, the damage wasn't enough to take the enemy down.

This sparked a discussion among players about the state of shotguns in the current meta and whether they should even be on the ground to pick up in a match. One user argued, "shotguns are literally pointless in this game," while another said, "They shouldn't be ground loot anymore... you're better off with the drop in pistol."

It's clear many players believe shotguns should be an instant down when hitting someone in the face, but this opinion isn't shared by everyone and when a shotgun is meta, there are usually a lot of complaints.

Meta shotguns in Warzone 2 lead to countless complaints

Shotguns are extremely difficult to balance in Warzone 2, as being insta-killed by a weapon at close quarters can be extremely frustrating to play against. This was the case for the KV Broadside, which completely took over the meta in Season 2 and had one of the highest pick rates in the game.

However, if a shotgun cannot eliminate an enemy quicker than SMG when face-to-face with a foe, they're effectively 'pointless' as they cannot compete in mid-range skirmishes.

For the health of the game, it's clear the devs are comfortable keeping shotguns out of the meta for the time being, but with huge balance changes in every patch, it's possible they will make a resurgence in the near future.
