The tanks are rolling into town, and with Black Ops 6 just over the horizon, we're ready for the video game industry to once again be steamrolled by Call of Duty in 2024. Having reportedly been in the works for four years, Treyarch's next outing is already being hyped as the return to form the CoDverse desperately needs.
Although the release date for the long-awaited sequel to 2020's lauded Black Ops Cold War seems like it's an age away, Activision is ramping up to Black Ops 6 with CoD NEXT and two multiplayer beta weekends. That's all well and good for those who want to try out new maps like the rumoured Vorkuta, but what about single-player players?
Call of Duty fans worried about Campaign early access
While we're not going to pretend that the focus of modern CoD isn't multiplayer, there's still a loyal legion that wants to play the campaign. With it being relatively short and easy to whip through, there's the agonising choice of what to play first, multiplayer or campaign. After all, imagine a world without "No Russian" and "All Ghillied Up".
Worryingly, there's been an uncomfortable silence when it comes to Black Ops 6's potential campaign early access. It's typically been a big talking point of the pre-release circuit, with it often being confirmed in one of the game's early trailers. As CoD Next nears, players are rightly concerned we won't be getting early access to the campaign.
X user @ItsPerka asked if we think we're getting campaign early access or Zombies, going with the latter because campaign early access would've surely been announced by now. Insider Pizza has already warned there won't be an early access period for the fan-favourite Zombies, but as time rolls on, campaign early access looks increasingly unlikely.
We know those who've paid for the pricier Vault Edition get access to the Black Ops 6 multiplayer Closed Beta. Giving us a glimmer of hope, others noted that the Vault Edition did once have a release date of October 17 instead of the general October 25 - suggesting something early access is in the works.
Sadly, the likes of @TheGhostofHope suggest the whole debacle of Modern Warfare 3 being panned as the 'worst' Call of Duty of all time (thanks largely to the campaign) could be to blame here. Even if Treyarch has confidence in where Adler and Woods' story goes next, it might not be willing to take the risk this time around.
