Well, well, well. Look who's back. The Call of Duty franchise is set to make its bold return later this year with Modern Warfare 2. There's a lot to look forward to, but among the notable points, Modern Warfare 2 marks the return of the franchise to Steam and the first CoD game on the digital storefront in almost five years.

Modern Warfare 2 is the long-awaited sequel that recently launched its official trailer to adoration from fans. The sub-series was always going to have some pull, but the Modern Warfare name is doing a lot for fans who felt a little dejected by the quality and lack of ambition of Vanguard. But god damn, is it costing a pretty penny.

How Much Does Modern Warfare 2 Cost On Steam?

The shooter franchise's step away from the Blizzard Battle.Net launcher is set to cost players a hell of a sum, as a look at the Steam page for the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 reveals a whopping $69.99/£59.99 price tag.

Though this may not seem like much to the casual fan who has been playing on Xbox or PlayStation for the length of the franchise, it's pretty out of the ordinary for a PC game... especially one on Steam. Games typically max out at around $60/£50 on the platform, and anything more than that is pretty frowned upon by its community. And the community is frowning.

To make matters worse, this price is just for the regular edition of the game, and its Vault Edition (which controversially contains a smattering of re-used assets from Warzone) ups the ante with a whopping $110/£85 price tag. It's out of character for Steam games, but not so much for Activision Blizzard. Yet, that doesn't seem to have stopped fans.

How Can You Pre-Order Modern Warfare 2?

According to Steam and its front page, Modern Warfare 2 has been dubbed a "Top Seller" on the game's card, as determined by the Steam Team. Though the FPS is still four months away, it's clear that fans are getting their pre-orders in well ahead of time.

It's no surprise that players are excited that the CoDverse is returning to Steam, what with so many companies trying to make their own launchers work (no, EA, we don't want to download Origin), and this is a tidy way to experience Call of Duty on PC. Even though it's going to cost mounds.
