Back in the day, the good old golden ages, Call of Duty was best known for being an arcade-styled war simulation, where respawning was the only gimmick which drove a stake through the heart of realism.
Albeit the title was majorly faster and less tactile than the likes of Battlefield, Call of Duty was realism-first. But this ethos slowly faded into the abyss following the return from the futuristic jetpack era, and now the live-service model has come under criticism for ditching their signature look altogether.
After the reveal of the latest animalistic Operator outfit, Call of Duty fans have called out the series for "losing its identity".
Call of Duty fans claim the series has lost its identity
Modern Warfare 3 has been getting pretty furry. Following on from the furline skins from MW2, which included a rat and a cat, a plethora of animal outfits have been added over the last six months, ranging from pigeons and ducks to gorillas and godzillas.
The latest of which is the "CODasaurus" skin, which deploys the head of a dino as a mask, alongside a tracer pack with claw marks coming out of a fossil-inspired weapon blueprint.
This skin seems to have been the straw that has broken the camel's back though, with a mass outpour of fans saying that Call of Duty has lost its way.
"I can’t think of a single series that has lost its identity this bad," one fan tweeted, which has now gathered 120,000 likes in support.
Another fan added, "Love the design but if it was on another game," with mil-sim stans pointing towards Fortnite for this kind of collab.
MW3 fans spot a massive flaw in new Dinosaur skin
Design aside, the CODasaurus has one blatant flaw too, and that is which Operator has been chosen to be the recipient of the sabre-toothed mask.
Taking to Reddit, players pointed out that the skin is haemorrhaged to the Operator Sickle, completely skipping over the more suitable Raptor, whose name is literally a dinosaur.
"Giving the raptor skin to Raptor would've been smart, but we'll have none of that around here," another fan said on Reddit.
Call of Duty really does seem to be in its Fortnite arc, but the bundles continue to sell at a rate which makes the series sell its soul to the microtransaction devil.
