Those hard-to-please Call of Duty fans love to complain about the franchise. It's all well and good moaning about bugs and glitches in Warzone or that each new mainline title doesn't change enough to justify its cost. Still, it won't stop those same complainers from buying it.
Jokes aside, these dedicated players do deserve better. Their commitment to the series remains a testament to what they want to see in video games rather than what they get from Activision's rogue's gallery of CoD devotee devs. Now, fans reckon they know what could help dig the series out.
Call of Duty fans pitch real-life maps
One fan has taken to Twitter (via Dexerto) and wowed fans of the franchise with their suggestion for what they think could revolutionise how maps works. "Call of Duty should collab with Google Maps and let players design maps around their own neighborhoods," says Twitter user Lukedutchh in a post.
"6v6 Search & Destroy in your local boozer would revive the franchise entirely." The OP goes on to suggest a community voting system based on creator-made maps. To be fair, it's what fans have quietly wanted since they started playing the series before they were old enough to.
We've always wanted to imagine how the local supermarket would be great as a Zombies map - and though it might be an unlikely plan from Activision when considering the implications of letting players tear down their local streets with an AK-47, you'd probably be pretty keen.
Players react to "genius" yet "horrible" Call of Duty pitch
Many love the idea as they consider the fun they'd have darting around their local streets in Call of Duty - and others have pointed out that it would be a huge safety risk. One said, "Imagine the chaos of a sniper battle in your neighbor's backyard, or a stealth mission through the grocery store."
Another added, "I'm waiting for GTA to become this. With AI n all that jazz, it could be amazing," while a concerned gamer concluded, "Normalizing killing people at my local Costco doesn't sound like a good idea Luke." Even though we're bored of revamped versions of Shipment, this might not be the best idea.
Many players have latched onto this idea, but due to obvious safety concerns, it's not likely to appear in-game any time soon. If the Horizon Forbidden West discourse taught us anything, it's that fans definitely shouldn't be in the board rooms of AAA game development.
