No matter how politically iffy it might become, Call of Duty is intrinsically linked to war - both in concept and practice. It's something that the shooter series has developed from the very start and is entirely unable to disconnect from.

Even when the writers invent wars of their own to wage in the future, we always come back to the wars we know. Conflict is the reason that Call of Duty exists, and as long as it does, it'll be drawing from the loss of life and viciousness of global catastrophe.

It might be easy to dismiss the CoDverse as purely fiction, but the truth is, that isn't the case. And now, as fans continue to grow bored with the franchise for the most part, they're demanding that the team develop a game based on their "favourite" wars.

Why Do Fans Want Call of Duty Go To Vietnam?

Call of Duty and Battlefield fans are turning out in their droves on Reddit to call for the Vietnam War to be transformed into shooter entertainment. A new post by Ghost_Mech in the Gaming subreddit has brought a lot of gamers out of the woodwork. They're asking for a new entry in the FPS series to draw from the war that took place for twenty years from 1955, and drew a total death count of 58,220.

"Stop with the WW1 and WW2 games and make a new Vietnam War game you cowards," reads the post. "Talking to you Activision and EA. Hell even an indie developer. Let's get it." Others soon jumped on the bandwagon. One critic said, "I think WW2 gets covered a lot because it's one of the few wars in US history where people agree that there was a definite evil (Nazis). A lot of other conflicts in US history were controversial both during and after the fact and it's harder to get people to be on board with a game where they aren't sure if they are the 'good guys'."

Could Call Of Duty Or Battlefield Go To Vietnam?

Talking about the idea of a Vietnam War Call of Duty, someone joked, "Someone else joked, "Yeah id love to see Activision’s take on the Vietnam War with a 4 hour campaign full of historical inaccuracies." Of course, it's entirely possible that Activision Blizzard or EA could actually take up this unofficial suggestion and make a game set during the long Vietnam War. Still, it's incredibly weird for people to be clamouring for it in the first place.

It seems like fans are getting lost in the twisting of real-life events into entertainment that they're not seeing how bizarrely dystopic their requests are - especially as very real war wages in Europe right now. But, there's clearly no way to stop it, meaning Activision and EA will be asked to provide them with the video game editions of the conflicts regardless. Maybe we'll head to Vietnam before we know it, but it won't keep the requests from being a little awkward.
