Bans in Call of Duty are usually reserved for those who break the rules in one form or another, especially if they're gaining an unfair advantage over their foes.

Whether that's utilising third-party software, bug abuse, or even harassing other players, all of these actions will be punished with a suspension.

However, it can cause outright panic in the CoD community when punishments are being handed out for no reason at all.

Well, that's exactly what's happening at the moment, with Call of Duty players being banned out of the blue for opening the store tab.

Call of Duty's event tab is randomly banning players

As showcased by ModernWarzone, Warzone content creator KRNG Lazy experienced a very strange punishment on stream. After opening the store tab in Modern Warfare 3, a pop-up notified them that they'd been "temporarily banned from playing Call of Duty."

This didn't occur after a match or lobby. Instead, it was just a consequence of opening up the store tab. It's hard to know how this bug is even triggering, as the menus have no relation to gameplay whatsoever.

As you would expect, this is causing a lot of panic among CoD players who are nervous about opening the store.

CoD ban bug only appears to be handing out short suspensions

KRNG Lazy did respond to ModernWarzone's post, revealing that he restarted his game and "it was fine" in the end. So, by the looks of it, these suspensions only last until you fully reboot Modern Warfare 3.

It's worth noting that some players are claiming their store tab punishments are lasting a lot longer. "One of my friends got banned and now he can't appeal for some reason," said one user, with another arguing "This happened to me yesterday I got so scared and still haven’t opened the game."

Short-term or not, getting a message saying you're banned is not fun for any CoD player, so Sledgehammer needs to resolve this as soon as possible.
