Quake is an undisputed classic, and still has an incredibly strong fanbase, especially when considering how long ago the original game came out. Standing alongside DOOM and Wolfenstein as the most crucial shooters in gaming history, Quake is a titan in its own right.

As rumours of a complete Quake reboot similar to 2016's DOOM begin to reach a fever pitch, excitement for Quake has been the highest it's been in years. This makes it the perfect time for the arrival of Block Quake, a brilliantly daft mod for the game which strips it all back into LEGO form.

What Is Block Quake?

Modder Kebby_Quake has come through with the game that we never thought we needed - a LEGO-esque recreation of the original Quake. In a post-LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga era, a LEGO revamp of Quake could be great.

The mod, called Block Quake, is pretty much exactly what it says on the tin. It's a run-through of the original game, with each of the models replaced by a LEGO-adjacent copy - giving the immensely violent game a little more of a family-friendly sheen.

The pack was revealed in a charming video, showing off some of the more scary models that have been stripped back to a plastic reflection. Block Quake is yet to receive some extra sound effects and a custom (presumably blocky) HUD, along with some fancy new weapons and animations.

How Do You Install Block Quake?

Block Quake is completely free to download, and all you have to do is install it. Once downloaded from the Itch.io site, extract the pak2 file in the pack and rename it to "pak1", dropping it into your Id1 folder tucked away in the rerelease folder in Quake's files.

Turn off the enhanced models in the remaster's display settings, and you're good to go. The mod is incredibly charming, and looks like a lot of fun - and we can't wait to delve into the LEGO-esque violence. To be honest, we're surprised Traveller's Tales hasn't already snapped up the idea of an official LEGO Quake. Well, if it's good enough for Doctor Who
