Going into the Black Ops Cold War era, Treyarch revamped their scorestreak system to allow for more players to achieve at least one or two of their chosen streaks even when they struggle to chain together consecutive kills. The method which goes off a points multiplayer system per kill has resulted in many more cruise missiles raining from the skies, and more dismembered limbs being sprayed across Nuketown '84.
However, it appears that one addition to the game has rendered some of the scorestreaks broken, allowing enemies to completely ignore bombardments.
Black Ops Cold War Broken Scorestreaks
As seen on a Reddit clip, some enemies are simply bypassing explosions and continuing to kill the user who had called in the streak.
Reddit user "SenmiMsS" could be seen dropping a cruise missile onto an opponent in Nuketown, who was dealt with zero damage and subsequently killed them whilst they left the broken scorestreak.
According to the comments, the enemy can be seen spawning in the area, and survived the scorestreak through a method known as "spawn protection".
Players Call for Spawn Protection To be nerfed
Following the clip, which resulted in the Reddit user dying, players have now called for spawn protection to be nerfed, or worse, expelled ("she has got to sort out her priorities").
The way spawn protection works means that players have four seconds from spawning where they cannot be killed by explosives or non-bullet methods, with the exception of map-based obstructions (jumping off the map) or fire from Napalm Strikes (although the initial blast cannot cause damage in this period). This allows players ample time to get to cover to avoid repeated deaths to spawn-trapping explosives.
However, with the spawns on maps like Nuketown often spawning players behind enemy lines or straight into the action, players have branded the method as "dumb" whilst others have praised it in most situations.
One user commented that "it's another method" of punishing "better players", with their well-earned scorestreaks being thrown down the drain. This comes in after heavy accusations that Black Ops Cold War's skill-based matchmaking is designed to reward casual players and hinder those that are of a higher ability.
Whether the protection could be changed is yet to be seen, as many others argued that players will only be calling for it when they blow up straight off spawn.
