If Sledgehammer Games was getting sore muscles after holding the dub that is Modern Warfare 3, well, Treyarch is going to need to hit the gym now to handle how many plaudits they'll get in 2025.

Following the success of Sledgehammer's Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer, it now looks like arguably the best game in the series will be getting a similar revival.

According to reports, a Black Ops 2 sequel is on the way for Call of Duty 2025, being a semi-futuristic title featuring classic BO2 maps and new originals.

New reports out of Insider Gaming claim that Call of Duty 2025, the second of two back-to-back Treyarch games, will be a Black Ops 2 sequel.

Codenamed "Saturn", Insider Gaming claims that the Black Ops 2 sequel is already in development at Treyarch and will be set around the year 2030, five years after Black Ops 2.

The report suggests that this game will be more closely linked to the original Black Ops series with new villains taking over from Raul Menendez, featuring classic protagonists such as Mason and Woods.

As for multiplayer, the report suggests that previous rumblings of the entire Black Ops 2 map set being remade are true, and the likes of Raid, Slums, and more will all be playable.

Although the Black Ops 2 map pool is being reported to be used in Call of Duty 2025, Insider Gaming also alleges that Treyarch will be heeding the advice of Sledgehammer Games in the way they handle the map pool, adding their own original designs too, following community feedback from MW3.

Treyarch is also set to finally reintroduce the Pick 10 create-a-class system, which was actually scrapped from Modern Warfare 3, and will also have a second year of round-based Zombies.

Even though we're a solid 22 months off from having Call of Duty 2025, Treyarch fans can start to get giddy, especially if they bring back that good old M8A1 burst rifle. Bosh.
