Black Myth Wukong Rumoured Expansion

Soulslikes couldn't be bigger right now, and while FromSoftware still reigns supreme, the likes of Lies of P and Black Myth: Wukong have proved the developer doesn't have carte blanche on the genre. Although Black Myth: Wukong is more Souls-adjacent and has only just come out, there's already buzz about a potential DLC.

Game Science's animalistic adventure has faced plenty of controversy behind the scenes, but when it comes to Black Myth: Wukong, the game sold over 10 million copies within the first three days. It's not bad for a title that hasn't even been released on Xbox yet. Alongside the (hopeful) eventual release on Xbox, fans are already discussing expansions.

Black Myth: Wukong expansion could be coming in 2025

We've already heard about a mythical Black Myth: Wukong DLC, and now, Chinese video game analyst Daniel Camilo claims that one could be with us by the end of January 2025. Camilo has crunched the numbers and suggested that more than 70% of the title's sales are coming from China - which isn't surprising given that's where Game Science is based.

Interestingly, Camilo thinks that less than 20% of the total player base will be shelling out for a DLC, apparently due to Black Myth: Wukong's difficulty and it losing some of its novelty by the time an expansion launches. Still, with the game selling more than 20 million copies, even 20% of that is quite something.

As Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC sold five million units in one week, we're not sure we agree with Camilo's musings on difficulty. You've also got to remember that Black Myth: Wukong is a title that's continuing to gather steam, and there are high hopes for its Xbox release.

Fans were discussing the idea of a Wukong expansion over on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, and for once, everyone seemed pretty positive. Whereas some games might be accused of cutting content and saving it for a DLC, Black Myth: Wukong is praised as feeling like a complete game, meaning any continuation would be welcome.

One fan cheered, "I hope they will take this opportunity to release a physical version for the PS5 that will also include the expansion. It would sell like hot cakes." Another added, "Looks like Wukong is gonna be the best selling game of 2025 too."

With it taking around 35 hours just to complete the main story, Black Myth: Wukong was hardly lacking content. The devs haven't tweeted in nearly a month, so it's entirely possible they're getting ready to announce a DLC alongside whatever is going on with the Xbox version.
