It sounds like Bella Ramsey could be hitting the gym, as The Last of Us' no-nonsense lead gets ready to flex her muscles for the upcoming Season 2. The SAG-AFTRA strike pumped the brakes on the second season of the live-action video game adaptation, but much like a George A. Romero zombie, things are shuffling forward.

Bringing the fungus-infected world of Naughty Dog's 2013 game was no small feat, but with Game Director Neil Druckmann serving as co-creator with Chernobyl's Craig Mazin, The Last of Us became one of 2023's best shows. Although this set a high bar for Season 2, the cast has equally high hopes for what comes next.

Casting The Last of Us was the first hurdle, and way back when, Juno's Elliot Page was tipped to play Ellie. In the end, it went to Game of Thrones' Bella Ramsey, who reunited with Westerosi co-star Pedro Pascal - playing Joel Miller. Season 2 will adapt 2020's The Last of Us Part II, and with that, expect a whole new Ellie.

Speaking to Collider, Ramsey explained, "I'm excited for the really intense stuff, because I did a bit of that in Season 1 obviously, but to do that. And actually more physical scenes because Ellie is obviously more physically fit in Season 2.

"I love stunt stuff, and like waking up with bruises the next day, and finding myself with a black eye, just because it feels like so good to have done it." For those who haven't played the games, Part II has a five-year time jump. With Ellie supposed to be 14 in the first game and 19 in the second, it lines up better with Ramsey being 20 in real life.

The Last of Us could run for four seasons

As for what else we can expect in The Last of Us Season 2, there's a hint that we'll see the romantic arc from the games of Ellie and Dina. This doesn't come as much of a surprise, considering Dina appeared in the background of Episode 6.

Saying she's equally excited to see where that goes, Ramsey concluded, "I had the one episode in Season 1 with Ellie and Riley, but to have it as a storyline throughout the whole of the second game in terms of Ellie and Dina is really exciting."

If Ramsey is hitting the gym ahead of Season 2, we could see a jacked Ellie take on the rumoured casting of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby. These two will likely duke it out over multiple seasons, with Season 2 only expected to adapt part of the much meatier Part II.

Although The Last of Us cast presumably won't be locked in for an eight-season run like some Game of Thrones mainstays (especially if we follow Part II), it seems there's a rough outline that could see the series run for four seasons. While all of that is subject to change, at least Ramsey seems as pumped as the fans for The Last of Us Season 2.
