Call of Duty has always been a game filled with blood and gore. It's no horror game, but the campaigns especially feature a range of guts and dismemberment. Over the years we've seen mad dogs rip the oesophagus out of enemies, beloved protagonists be mind-tortured, bodies burned alive, children killed in car explosions, not to mention zombies feasting on the flesh of JFK, all happen in the Call of Duty world.
But a trophy to celebrate the winners of New York Subliners' Call of Duty League Major showing the skull of the Statue of Liberty. Nope, too far...
Ahead of the final Major of the 2022 CDL season, Activision has reportedly banned the New York Subliners from presenting the winners their self-made trophy while the broadcast is live, as it is allegedly "too gruesome".
New York Subliners Show Off Statue of Liberty Trophy For CDL Major IV
The Call of Duty League has made a point of only making one trophy during the season, that being for the World Championships to ensure that the trophy means more than the Major event wins.
However, teams have since adopted their own designs, starting with Minnesota ROKKR who presented Los Angeles Guerrillas with a Shield after their Major win. Since, Toronto Ultra designed a winner's helm to allow Seattle Surge to don once they became Kings of the North in Major III, and Boston Breach revealed four unique face masks for the Challengers Open winners. Now, New York Subliners have revealed their trophy, depicting a Call of Duty x Big Apple crossover.
Home of the Statue of Liberty, New York's Call of Duty franchised team tipped their hat to the French gift, just as their own native phenomenon and three all-American brutes attempt to pull off a miracle run to secure World Championships qualification.
Activision Ban 'Gruesome' CDL Major IV Trophy
Despite the cool design, it has now been reported that Activision have rejected the Subliners' proposal to give out the trophy as it's "too Gruesome".
Subliners' Creative Director Matt Lucero took to Twitter to reveal the news, with the official account also echoing that message with a now-deleted tweet.
According to reports, the trophy will still be presented to the winners in some capacity, but Activision will not be showing it at all in the official broadcast.
The New York Subliners come into their own event as second-favourites to lift the banned trophy.
Despite their second-from-bottom ranking, Subliners went on a perfect 5-0 spree during qualifying, and will now look to get their first Major win all season to try and propel a miraculous dive for eighth place to grab a World Championship ticket.
