A new Steam feature will let you hide embarrassing games from your friends

It is not uncommon to have the occasional game you enjoy playing that you just don’t want to be asked about. Whether it is a guilty pleasure game or a lude visual novel, a new Steam feature is in the works to help you keep that content to yourself.

It is not uncommon to have the occasional game you enjoy playing that you just don’t want to be asked about.

Whether it is a guilty pleasure game or a lude visual novel, a new Steam feature is in the works to help you keep that content to yourself.

Valve is introducing a new feature which will let you set games as private

Valve is reportedly working on a new feature which will allow Steam users to set specific games as private.

Pavel Djundik, a data miner and the creator of SteamDB, has seemingly found evidence of a “mark as private” button which will be added to individual games.

This may allow players to hide individual games from their libraries and Steam profiles so that their friends cannot see that they own it, their playtime or their achievements in the game.

A thread in the Steam forums, titled Hidden Game Suggestion, popped up in October suggesting the idea.

The thread said: “When Hiding a game from the Library, we should be able to also Hide the game from our "Recently Played", the online "In-Game" Status, as well as from our "Owned Games" section.

“Like, If I'm hiding a game from my library, it's probably because I also might not want people to see that I 1, Own the game, 2, Play or am Currently Playing said game, and 3, have any hours or achievement progress in the game.

“Basically, the game should be as if we don't even own it when looking at our public facing steam account, without having to private the whole account.”

Valve is also reportedly adding a new parental controls feature

This isn’t the only change to privacy settings that Valve appears to be making, as a new parental controls feature also seems to be in the works.

According to Djundik, the new controls will allow parents to set daily playtime restrictions and children will be able to request purchases in the Steam store.

While these new features are exciting for anyone who may want to hide that embarrassing blight on their Steam profile, none of this has been confirmed by Valve at this stage. This means that even if this is in the works it may never see the light of day.
