Role Playing Games, spearheaded in pop culture by Dungeons & Dragons, have always strayed into the silly.

Though there are a lot of moments in the typical campaign that demands absolute focus, others have the potential to descend into needless violence, absurd problem-solving and a lot of magic spells that don't make a lot of sense. And that's exactly what makes the genre so much fun.

And now, designers are taking it to the next level with a tabletop RPG that will let you be very silly indeed.

As revealed on the developer's Kickstarter page, a brand-new tabletop RPG based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail, entitled Monty Python's Cocurricular Mediaeval Reenactment Programme, is on the way.

The game is gearing up to launch its crowdfunding push, and it has revealed that the game will be led primarily by its Game Master, known as The Head of Light Entertainment, who is given one of 20 personalities to adhere to and narrate the game with.

The game looks ready to poke fun at the structure of RPG games as well as the absurd comedic innovations of Monty Python, but don't expect it just to be a simple recreation of The Holy Grail. In fact, designer Brian Salba is confident that the game will come to reflect everything that Monty Python came to create.

Speaking with GGRecon, Brian Salba from Crowbar Creative has revealed that the game won't restrict itself just to the mythos of The Holy Grail, and that the game will come to be an authentic experience for fans of the comedy troupe.

"While the game is set in Medieval England, it's not actually an adaptation of Holy Grail," he tells us. "It draws on Monty Python's entire catalogue of work to create a system and setting that is full of all sorts of Monty Python hallmarks--Medievalism, yes, but also anachronism, surrealism, complete non sequiturs, and general absurdity."

Plus, when asked about what fans of Monty Python can expect from the game, Salba told us "For one, authenticity. Monty Python doesn't let things go out into the world with the MP name on them unless they are true to their sensibilities. For another (I hope), a unique kind of game that is simple to run and play, but full of nuance and unexpected twists."

"One thing not to expect, though, is a straight rip of scenes from their shows and movies. Everybody knows the Black Knight, Dead Parrot, and Wewease Bwian scenes by heart already, so this game is not about dropping players into replications of those scenes, but rather providing a big sandbox full of the characters, places, creatures, and ideas of MP...then letting gaming groups make what they will of it!"

The game will soon be available to support on Kickstarter, and it seems like the very best way to immerse yourself in the bizarre worlds of Monty Python. Silly run, don't silly walk, to show the team some love, and get ready to be a very naughty boy.
