30,000 Fans Sign Petition For The Simpsons: Hit & Run Remaster
It looks like we aren't the only ones "racing" to get behind the controls of the Plow King, as nearly 30,000 fans have signed a petition to remake The Simpsons: Hit & Run.
If you're a regular here, you'll know we're big fans of Radican Entertainment's 2003 racer. As a cult classic, this Grand Theft Auto clone mixed your love of Rockstar's brutal franchise and America's favourite family.
What Is The Hit & Run Petition?
Over on Change.org, nearly 30,000 Springfield wannabees have signed the petition for a Hit & Run remake, remaster, or sequel. The OP explains how the original game sold over three million copies and captured the success of the series.
The petition reminds us that although we had The Simpsons Game from 2007, it pales in comparison to Hit & Run. In this mythical remaster, the petition asks for more playable characters, including the likes of Krusty the Clown and Groundskeeper Willie.
They said it's a "no-brainer" that there should be more levels outside of the seven there originally were, while the map should flow between sections instead of having loading screens. Ironically, someone has already modded the original to make it open-world.
Will There Be A Hit & Run Remaster?
The whole petition was born from a recent remaster, where a gamer called reubs remade the first level of Hit & Run in just a week. That was quickly scrubbed from the internet, but here's hoping it could return in some form.
There are several problems though - namely the fact that developer Radical Entertainment and publisher Vivendi Universal Games no longer exist. The team has been scattered across the likes of EA, while no one is really sure where the rights lie these days.
Still, we're not alone in calls for a Hit & Run remaster. Producer Vlad Ceraldi also threw his weight behind the idea, while The Simpsons showrunner Matt Selman also said he'd love one. Sadly, Selman thinks a "corporate octopus" is stopping it.
With Hit & Run turning 20 next year, we think 2023 would be the perfect time to announce a remaster.
