Amidst the chaos that has ensued with Modern Warfare 2 stalling, players have been driven away to other shooters like Fortnite and Apex Legends, with some even hedging their bets for upcoming games like Deadrop and xDefiant.

However, it seems like Activision doesn't want to let go of its player base too easily. Thanks to a whopping sale, one of its greatest games is topping the download charts. 11 years after being released, Black Ops 2 is topping Xbox's sales charts to beat Modern Warfare 2 and other console games to the top spot.

With Modern Warfare 2 fans browsing the market before Season 3, Activision has now slashed the price of Black Ops 2 from the hefty fee of $49.99 down to just $14.99, and Black Ops 1 from $29.99 to $14.99.

Given that the sequel was priced too high for many players to just dabble in, the sale has now ramped up interest in those nostalgic CoD fans. It means it's rocketed to the top of Xbox's best-selling list.

According to GameRant, Black Ops 2 was outselling the likes of MLB 2023, Modern Warfare 2, NBA 2K23, and GTA V on Xbox, which all sat at second through to the fifth spot in that order.

MW2 players are flocking to old-school Black Ops games

Black Ops 2 wasn't the only best-selling Xbox game too, as its Black Ops prequel was the sixth-best-selling game on Xbox too.

Currently, both titles are listed as the "top paid" games on the Xbox store, despite the sale being over, showing just how many players are digging out the old MSMC and Galil over the MW2 arsenal.

Black Ops 2 especially is held in elite status, often being dubbed as the best Call of Duty of all time, and even includes some of the best Zombies maps in the franchise. If you haven't played - or just fancy a revisit - it's the perfect escape from the Modern Warfare 2 simulation.
