It's out with the old and in with the *erm* older, as the latest Call of Duty leaks claim the rumoured Call of Duty: Vanguard will revamp the fan-favourite Terminal map. While there are plenty of rumours about what to expect from the apparently World War II-themed Vanguard, things are seemingly coming together ahead of a full reveal.

As with most modern CoD games, Activision likes to mix the old with the new. Just like Black Ops Cold War gave Nacht der Untoten a lick of paint for Die Maschine, Nuketown as Nuketown '84, and remastered Black Ops II's Raid, developers have learned we love a bit of classic CoD.

Now, an old favourite from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 could get a whole new lease of life.

Is Call of Duty: Vanguard getting a Terminal map?

The scoop comes from trusted leaker "TheMW2Ghost", who recently teased London Docks would be making a welcome return for Vanguard. Considering it was dubbed the best map from Sledgehammer's maligned Call of Duty: WWII, a revamped London Docks is an easy sell. However, the idea that the airport-based Terminal could find a place in a World War II-themed game is a decidedly stranger concept.

After TheMW2Ghost teased a "WW2 version of a very fan-favourite map from a very iconic COD game" is on the way, a follow-up from Modern Warzone claims it's for Terminal. How this will play out remains to be seen, but safe to say, players were equally baffled and impressed by the news.

One sceptic wrote, "I’ve seen how Terminal was done on Infinite Warfare, but on a WW2 version? I don’t know, I honestly can’t see how Sledgehammer would recreate things like the jet and the gift shop in a WW2 environment". Another added, "Idk how I feel about another ww2 setting. So burnt out on it honestly. Futuristic seems better to me if they just do it right". A third concluded, "They've rinsed this map out way too much. We don't want it right now, maybe it will be nostalgic again in about 3/4 years".

Should Vanguard introduce a Terminal map?

It's definitely possible to have a WWII-themed Terminal. The world's first airport is believed to be Maryland's College Park Airport and opened in 1909. By the time WWII rolled around, airports were commonplace and played a vital part in the war. Then again, it's easy to echo the concerns of players that it will jar against the aesthetic of the period Vanguard. Terminal has become iconic for being able to go inside the jet, and if it's stripped out due to the era, there's an argument that it's not Terminal at all.

Let's also remember we've seen Terminal several times before. As well as appearing in Call of Duty Mobile and Online, Terminal returned in a main series entry for Modern Warfare 3. The rumour of another remastered map making up one of Vanguard's eight starting maps isn't exactly filling Sledgehammer critics with confidence.

Also, let's remember it was only a few months ago that Vanguard was being called a "f*****g disaster" and there were whispers it would be pushed into 2022. Terminal in Vanguard would be very different, and aside from a much more muted colour palette, it is possible the classic jet battlefield is replaced with a massive bomber for us to dash inside. We're not completely sold on the idea, but we're not against it either. It would definitely be interesting to see what Sledgehammer has in mind for a WWII Terminal.
