As the mind behind Mortal Kombat and the injustice games, Ed Boon sure does love input from fans of the series.

His involvement with followers of both franchises on Twitter seems to ground NetheRealm Studios pretty nicely, and though it's a sizeable team, Boon asking fans questions about their favourite series makes the team feel incredibly human.

He has no reason to stop, as it's hard to deny his online clout. Although Boon doesn't often give everything away to fans, he's hinting that he's got a classic game in mind to bring back from the dead.

Taking to Twitter and posting a poll, it's clear that Boon is reflecting on Mortal Kombat's past, as he's asked fans if there's anything left to do with beat-em-up spin-off of the series Shaolin Monks. And they've got an answer for him.

He shared a poll on April 11 asking about the game, and the results are in - with 55.4% of the votes, fans have called for Shaolin Monks to get a remaster. The remaining votes called for a sequel.

Of course, this doesn't mean that Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks will instantly enter production, but it's fascinating to see that NetherRealm is looking to the past and to its loyal fans to consider the next move. But to be honest, Ed Boon loves the notion of a remake.

Ed Boon wants a remake of Mortal Kombat 4 as well

As we reported in January, Ed Boon has been reflecting on plenty of games that could do with a remake or remaster, as he replied to one user's fan art mocking up a game box for a Mortal Kombat 4 remake.

"YES!" he emphatically replies. "I've definitely considered this over the years." It's good to know NetherRealm isn't averse to dipping into its back catalogue before moving forward. After all, it worked well for Capcom with Resident Evil.

But, that's simply the direction that the gaming industry is headed. For those of you playing the obscure MK titles growing up, this could be your chance to return to the good old days.
