Will Fortnite Be on PS5 and Xbox Series X?
There seems to be no end to the platforms Epic Games will make Fortnite available to play on. The Battle Royale is available to play on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and Mobile, but will the title see fruition on next-gen consoles like Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5?
Well, mark your calendars for the 2020 Holiday season because two of the best consoles of this generation are going to be released worldwide. Microsoft’s XBOX Series X and Sony’s Playstation 5 are going to hit the markets at the end of this year. Here’s a recap on all we know till this point:
XBOX Series X:

Release Date: Somewhere between October and December 2020. Although, people are speculating it to release at Thanksgiving which will be on the 26th of November 2020, just in time for the Black Friday shopping madness!
Main Features:
- 120 fps support
- Potential 8K resolutions
- Ray-tracing technology
- Variable Rate Shading for more stable frame rates
Pricing: While it is known that the above features do not come at a cheap price and the upcoming XBOX will be quite expensive; however, Microsoft has reassured that it won’t make the same pricing mistakes as the previous generation suggesting that the console might not be extremely expensive.
Games: As of now, only Halo Infinite and Hellblade 2 have been confirmed to release with the console, while games of previous XBOX generations will be able to be played due to backwards compatibility.
PS5

- SSD to improve load speeds and faster updates.
- Ray-tracing technology
- Adaptive Triggers
- 8K gaming and 4K at 120 Hz
Pricing: No price has been officially announced but an analogy from the past consoles can be made PS4 started at around $399 / £349, PS5 will be a bit expensive but will be closer to that range. Rumours are that it will be starting around $499.
Games: Last of Us: Part Two, FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six amongst others will be available on PS5. It will be backwards compatible with most PS4 games.

Will Fortnite be available on next-gen consoles?

It has been made available on every platform possessing suitable hardware to run it, from PC to Smartphone; you name it. While it is highly unlikely that the game won’t be releasing on upcoming consoles, it is worth looking at the information we currently have and predicting what might be the outcome.
XBOX Series X:
With promises of XBOX Series X having backwards compatibility, it should go without a doubt that Fortnite will be available. Phil Spence confirmed that all Xbox One compatible games will work on Series X. That means Fortnite will be playable on Xbox Series X from day one.
PS5:
“We recently took a look at the top 100 PlayStation 4 titles as ranked by playtime, and we’re expecting almost all of them to be playable at launch on PlayStation 5,” said Mark Cerny in a presentation. Keeping this in mind, metro.co.uk researched the Top 10 games on PS4 and here are the results:

- Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3 (54.5 million players)
- Fortnite (39.4 million players)
- FIFA 18 (32.8 million players)
- FIFA 17 (30.0 million players)
- FIFA 16 (28.3 million players)

- Minecraft (25.3 million players)
- Rocket League (23.1 million players)
- Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare (22.1 million players)
With Fortnite being at 3rd place it is evident that PS5 should be able to stream Fortnite, and with better graphics, it is possible that Fortnite on PS5 will boast better graphics and frame-rate than the current PS4. With the integration of SSD, load times will be reduced enhancing the overall experience of playing the game.
The community lacks any official Fortnite news made from Epic Games regarding the game's availability on these devices. However, the release of Fortnite on both of these consoles seems inevitable, with an even better experience to offer given the hardware and specifications both these consoles possess.
