What Is The UKETC? Esports Independent UK-Based Committee
On July 8, eight esports organisations founded an independent United Kingdom-based esports committee, in a bid to "help progress and grow the UK esports industry."
The United Kingdom Esports Team Committee, or UKETC, boasts representation from the biggest sides that were founded in Great Britain, some of whom compete on an international status almost every week.
With credibility at the forefront, the UKETC is set to act as a source of advice and educational resource for other UK esports teams, improve commercial opportunities, and establish a set of standards for professional esports teams.
Which Esports Teams Are Involved In The UKETC?
The eight founding teams are Endpoint, Excel, Fnatic, London Royal Ravens, London Spitfire, MNM Gaming, and Vexed Gaming.
According to the UKETC website, organisations have to be operating for three years or more, which is why the likes of Guild Esports are not yet involved, despite global recognition. Interstingly, both London Royal Ravens and London Spitfire have not been operating for three years as individual teams, but represent Rogue (REKT Global) and Cloud9 respectfully - two of esports' biggest global organisations.
Who Is Behind The UKETC?
The UKETC is supported by the British Esports Association, although it was founded by the eight UK-based organisations. The UKETC is not an official sub-committee of the BEA, although they will "work together according to our shared values of credibility, education, inclusivity and sustainability".
New organisations can also join the UKETC, should they meet the requirements, and all teams will have their status reviewed every six months.
The UKETC is the first team-led committee in the UK, and will hopefully serve as an adept representation of a rapidly growing industry.
