You might be wondering what The Cycle Frontier best settings are if you’re struggling a bit on the frames per second side of things. Even if you’re above a comfortable 60 FPS, The Cycle Frontier is one of those games that always benefits from having the most frames you can get. As always though, actually knowing what to change can be a bit of a headache, but luckily we’ve done the thinking for you, so make sure to read on to what out what The Cycle Frontier best settings are.

The Cycle Frontier Best Settings

The Cycle Frontier Best Settings

As is the case with pretty much every game, how far you can stretch these settings depends on how powerful your system is. One person could be able to run the game with everything on ultra and be fine, but someone else with a weaker system could struggle to get 60 FPS on the lowest.

Monitor resolution is also a strong determining factor, and lowering it could be something you could do to get more frames but it all depends on how much you need it, or how far you’re willing to stretch.

For the sake of this testing, the build we are playing on is comprised of: Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti/Ryzen 3 3300x/16GB DDR4 3000mhz/M.2 NVMe storage but we will point out which settings are best to scale down if you’ve got a lower-performing card.

So, check out The Cycle Frontier best settings to improve your framerate below:

  • Display Mode: Fullscreen
  • Resolution: Your monitor’s resolution
  • Resolution Scaling: 100
  • DLSS: Quality
  • Image Sharpening: 0
  • Max FPS: Unlimited
  • FOV: 90
  • Gamma: 2.2
  • Video Quality: Custom
  • Draw Distance: High
  • Shadow Quality: Medium
  • Post Process Quality: High
  • Texture Quality: Epic
  • Visual Effects: Medium
  • Foliage Quality: High
  • Vsync: Off
  • Show FPS: On
  • Enable DX12: Off
  • Enable Motion Blur: Off
  • Enable Multi Threaded Rendering: On
  • Enable GPU Crash Debugging: Off

Colourblind settings have no effect on performance, and can be tailored to suit the player’s best needs.

The Cycle Frontier How To Improve Your Framerate

While the settings above worked well for us, that’s not to say that they are the most optimised for your set-up. So, we’ll have a look at some settings you can play around with to allow you to improve your FPS.

Downgrading The Resolution

As mentioned prior, one of the best ways you can dramatically increase your framerate is to downgrade your resolution. This is very common at high-level play in a lot of other competitive titles and it is no different in this if you’re looking for the highest framerates. However, this is only really recommended if you are above 1080p, as dropping down to 900/720p can start to look very bad and not worth the frame trade-off. Lower resolutions can also trend more towards CPU dependency rather than GPU as more powerful GPUs aren’t used to their full potential, so take that into account too.

Resolution Scaling and DLSS

Resolution scaling and DLSS are two other great ways to improve your framerate, depending on what your current build situation is. If you have an Nvidia card of the 20-series or above then turning DLSS to Quality is an excellent way to gain more frames at very minimal image cost. Alternatively, if you don’t have access to DLSS then setting the resolution scaling to somewhere between about 80 and 100 can give you extra frames, but is far more prone to image degradation. Combining this with an appropriate image sharpening value can counter this problem slightly though.

Max FPS and Vsync

Although neither of these settings have a direct correlation on the amount of frames you will be getting, they absolutely affect the smoothness of the game through the amount of frames you can be shown. We definitely recommend you set these both to off to achieve the lowest input delay possible, meaning the game feels far smoother than it would with them on. If you have a FreeSync or G-Sync compatible monitor then that will be even better.

FOV Optimisation

Field of view can have an effect on the frame rate as your computer has to work harder if there is more to render on the screen, but we would recommend at least 90 to achieve a happy medium between having enough information and losing your focus. Feel free to play around though.

Video Quality Options

This is the section that is most dependent on what your system can handle but we have luckily tested the most performance-hungry settings. As per our testing, the most demanding video quality settings were predictably shadow quality and visual effects, as is usually the case.

If your PC can handle it, setting them to medium and everything else to high gives you a good balance, but keeping that ratio as you scale down is good too. Foliage quality is probably the best next step, alongside draw distance quality, but try and keep the latter as high as possible to see clearly at a distance. Furthermore, we found that texture quality had no FPS difference between low and epic, but that all depends on the available video memory you have.

Turn DirectX 12 Off

Whilst it can improve performance in some systems, we found that it incurred stuttering and 99% drops when playing that subsided when turned off. This is something that is relatively common with DX12 at the moment though, and it is currently an experimental feature in the game. Try it out though and see if it works for you.

Turn Motion Blur Off

Always turn motion blur off, it has no benefit and actively makes the image harder to see, especially in a game when you’re wanting to be precise and see as much information as possible. It can also cause performance loss too, so there is literally no reason for you to have it on.

That finishes up our guide on The Cycle Frontier best settings, giving you all the information you need to improve your FPS. Obviously, this can differ between systems, but usually, the best options work across all component configurations. If you’re on console though and wondering if The Cycle Frontier on Xbox and PlayStation, then look no further than our guide for all the answers.
