News of the Pragmata release date, gameplay, trailers, and everything else to do with the game has big boots to fill thanks to Capcom's legacy so far. T

he Japan-based studio potentially has the best horror pedigree in all of video gaming with the Resident Evil series, and titles like Haunting Ground, Sweet Home, and Dino Crisis to boot. Now with the announcement of their next horror title Pragmata - which was revealed back in 2020 during the Sony Future of Gaming Show - they may have another to add to that list.

From the minds of Resident Evil and Devil May Cry developers, Pragmata looks like a wacky sci-fi dystopian nightmare, and here is everything we know so far.

Pragmata is currently on pause

While official Capcom channels, like the game’s Twitter, listed Pragmata's release date as 2022, according to a PlayStation trailer at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), it’s set to come in 2023.

We were supposed to also get more information on Pragmata in 2021 according to the original Tweets from the game’s official account during its reveal, but we heard very little.

Speaking a 2023's Capcom Showcase, an update confirmed Pragfmata has been delayed indefinitely. "It is with a heavy heart that we must further postpone the release of Pragmata," says the developer statement.

"Our team is currently hard at work making the best game that we possibly can, but we need more time. We will continue to do our best to ensure that the final product is one that is worthy of your patience."

Pragmata Trailers

So far we’ve only had the one trailer for Pragmata, back in Sony’s Future of Gaming show in 2020. It’s fairly cryptic and confusing, and looks straight out of the bizarre mind of Hideo Kojima at times, but there is still some information that can be gathered from the strange spectacle.

The trailer begins showing us a spaceman, a little girl, and a robot cat that projects the holographic shell of a real feline over its body. They’re walking through a large city, reminiscent of New York, that appears to be abandoned, with cars littered about the streets.

Eventually, some weird corrupting force begins to warp a nearby building, then suddenly a space satellite comes crashing through what appears to be an artificial roof of glass.

Out of the blue, our unnamed characters are sucked up into the sky, and the spaceman uses a large net to stop the satellite from colliding with them. As they are sucked further up and launched out of the artificial dome they’re in, we get a close-up of the girl's face that highlights her robotic eyes.

The final part of the trailer sees the characters landing on what appears to be the moon, staring into the distance at Earth, referring to it as “our freedom.”

There have been no details yet on what to expect from the gameplay of Pragmata. Based on the information that it’s coming from Devil May Cry and Resident Evil developers, a third-person perspective is probably the most likely, but even that is pure speculation at this point.

The PlayStation website page for the game does let us know a little about where the game will take place, stating "travel to a dystopian near-future and explore a unique lunar world." One of the initial Tweets back in 2020 also shared this information, confirming it will take place on the Moon.

This certainly makes the trailer a little clearer in some aspects, as we appear to be in a city on the moon, where an event has caused something to go awry.

We can only assume the game's plot will focus on returning to Earth in some form, based on the ending line of the trailer, but regardless, the idea of exploring the moon and its lunar colonies is a tantalising prospect.

Pragmata Platforms

According to the Pragmata Twitter, it’s set to come out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It’s specifically touted as making the most out of new-generation hardware, so don’t expect it on older consoles.
