Pokemon Legends Arceus Darkrai is a Pokemon not many players expected to get the chance to catch, but turns out the legendary pitch-black Pokemon is available after you hit the credits. Catching Darkrai in Pokemon Legends Arceus is done via "The Darksome Nightmare", request 93. But how exactly do you complete it and bag Darkrai for yourself? Here's our guide to taking on Pokemon Legends Arceus Darkrai.

Unlocking The Darksome Nightmare and the ability to catch Darkrai has two conditions that must be met. The first is that you have to quell all the Noble Pokemon, close the rift in the sky, and hit the credits for the game. This isn't the end of the game because you've still got the Pokedex to complete, and part of that involves catching Darkrai.

The other criteria is that the console you're playing on must also have save data from Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. So yes, this does mean you need to either pay for an entirely different game, or you need to find a friend that has played it and get them to transfer you their Darkrai. Just remember to send it back, of course. Alongside the Darkrai opportunity, you'll also get two special Team Galactic outfits at the start of the game, but they don't quite compare to the pitch-black Pokemon.

When the credits have rolled, head back to the notice board in Jubilife Village and accept request 93, The Darksome Nightmare. Cael, one of the villagers, will come and talk to you about an "old tale" referencing a dark nightmare, and he'll point you to a spot in the Coronet Highlands.

Head there and as you approach, a cutscene will play with Darkrai floating between some rocks. When the encounter starts, the biggest difficulty is actually engaging Darkrai in battle without it teleporting away. Darkrai automatically looks towards you as soon as you get anywhere near it, so you need to sneak away behind rocks, then throw your chosen Pokemon nearby as soon as you get glimpse of it. It's supposedly possible to hit it with a ball to catch it without battling, but it's also incredibly difficult, so our recommendation is to come equipped with a team of Pokemon ready to whittle it down in battle.

Now you're fighting Darkrai, the battle itself is fairly straightforward. It's weak against Bug, Fairy, and Fighting-type moves, so try to get it as low as possible before using some of your best balls to catch it. Don't worry if you knock it out by accident - you can leave the Coronet Highlands then return to the same spot and Darkrai will respawn.

Now you know all about how to catch a Pokemon Legends Arceus Darkrai, why not read up on the complete Pokemon Legends Arceus Pokedex?
