Pokemon GO Tapu Lele: Counters, Weakness, And Movesets
Following Tapu Koko's arrival in Pokemon GO, Tapu Lele made its way onto the scene. This Psychic/Fairy-type is the guardian deity of Akala Island in the Alola region, serving as one of the four of such deities. In Pokemon GO, Tapu Lele will serve as a Tier 5 Raid boss. Of course, like any Legendary, it'll take the right counters to defeat it, and exploiting its weaknesses will be key. Pokemon GO Tapu Lele: Weaknesses
Click to enlargeTapu Lele is a Psychic/Fairy-type, which is great, as the Fairy typing covers some of Psychic's weaknesses — resisting Dark and Bug. Here are the types that Tapu Lele remains weak to:
- Steel
- Ghost
- Poison
It has a handful of resistances, so make sure not to use those in Tapu Lele Raids:
- Psychic
- Dragon (increased resistance)
- Fighting (increased resistance)

Click to enlargeSteel and Ghost-types are pretty powerful in Pokemon GO, meaning there are quite a few options when going up against Tapu Lele. Typically, you'll want to stick with these two types, as many Poison-types fail to measure up to them. Additionally, Poison-types are good against Fairy but weak to Psychic, meaning Tapu Lele can make quick work of them, even if it takes additional damage from their attacks.

Pokemon GO Tapu Lele: Movesets
Click to enlargeUnfortunately, Tapu Lele is not very good as an attacker. If it had received Charm as a fast move, the consensus is that it would be a fairly decent Fairy-type attacker with Charm/Moonblast. Unfortunately, it didn't receive Charm, so it's better suited as a Psychic-type attacker, just not a very good one in comparison to others.
If you'd like to use Tapu Lele in battle, your best bet is Confusion for a fast move and either Future Sight or Psyshock as a charge move. This applies to both PvE and PvP. Perhaps one day, Tapu Lele will receive Charm and be much more useful. Until then, it's basically a Pokedex entry.
