Pokemon GO Spring Into Spring Event: Tapu Bulu Debut

Some new Pokemon will debut in Pokemon GO starting with the Spring Into Spring event, most excitingly, Tapu Bulu. This Grass/Fairy-type is the guardian deity of Ula'ula Island in Alola and follows its fellow guardians Tapu Koko and Tapu Lele.

Tapu Bulu will head up Tier 5 Raids for the event (and presumably for a bit after the event ends). Tapu Bulu is extra vulnerable to Poison-type attacks, so Pokemon like Roserade, Mega Beedrill, Gengar, Victreebel, Vileplume, and other strong Poison-types will be the best counters.

Also making their debut are some new costumed Pokemon, namely the evolutions of existing Flower Crown Pokemon: Togetic (Flower Crown), Togekiss (Flower Crown), and Lopunny (Flower Crown). Their preevolutions, Togepi (Flower Crown) and Buneary (Flower Crown) were introduced into the game in 2020 but could not evolve.

While Tapu Bulu will not be available in its shiny form, all Flower Crown Pokemon (including the new ones) will be available shiny.

Pokemon GO Spring Into Spring Event: Collection Challenge

As part of the Pokemon GO Spring Into Spring event, there will be a limited time Collection Challenge available.

Completing this Collecting Challenge will award 2,000 XP, 2,000 Stardust, an encounter with Flower Crown Togetic, and a point added to your Elite Collector Medal.

We don't know yet which Pokemon will be required for the Collection Challenge, but it'll likely be Pokemon spawning or otherwise available during the event.

Pokemon GO Spring Into Spring Event: Research

There are three types of research available during the Pokemon GO Spring Into Spring event: Field Research Tasks, a Special Research story, and a Limited Research Day featuring Exeggcute.

Field Research Tasks are not currently known, but Niantic has said that they'll lead to encounters with Flower Crown Pikachu, Flower Crown Eevee, Flower Crown Chansey, and Flower Crown Buneary.

The Special Research questline is the third in the Alola series, this one being focused on Ula'ula Island and titled An Ula'ula Adventure. This questline, like A Melemele Adventure and An Akala Adventure before it, is available to anyone who plays Pokemon GO between its debut and June 1.

All three are part of a set that must be completed by June 1 to unlock the end-of-season questline. Those who don't complete these Special Research stories in time can purchase a ticket instead, which will cost USD$5 or the equivalent in your local currency.

The Limited Research Day will take place on Saturday, April 16 from 11am to 2pm local time. During this event, you can pick up Field Research Tasks at PokeStops that will lead to encounters with Exeggcute. Any Exeggcute evolved during this event will evolve into an Alolan Exeggutor that knows Draco Meteor, a charged move. Draco Meteor has 150 power in both Raids and Trainer battles.

Also during the event window, you'll receive double XP for catches and certain Grass-type Pokemon will be spawning more frequently in the wild, including the following:

  • Bulbasaur
  • Bellsprout
  • Paras
  • Oddish
  • Tangela
  • Chikorita
  • Seedot
  • Treecko
  • Sunkern

All of these Pokemon, as well as Exeggcute, are available in their shiny forms. Good luck!
