The Pokemon GO Johto Tour Gold or Silver ticket decision is here if you've bought entry to the event, and it's a tough choice to make. Those who have played Pokemon Gold & Silver will probably remember that both mascot Pokemon, Lugia and Ho-oh, could be caught in both games, which is not common in the main series games.

However, other version-exclusive Pokemon were still present in the two games. This is a staple feature of Pokemon games, and it continues in Pokemon GO as part of the Johto Tour. Trainers can choose Gold version or Silver version, each with some exclusive spawns and Pokemon with boosted shiny odds. Additionally, a new avatar item will be available to each version exclusively. Read on for all the info you need to choose between Gold and Silver in the Pokemon GO Tour: Johto event!

  • Some Pokemon from Johto are competitively viable. Here's a breakdown of the best Pokemon in Pokemon GO.

Pokemon GO Johto Tour: Gold & Silver Version Differences

For the most part, the two versions are identical. You’ll be able to catch both Apex Ho-oh and Apex Lugia regardless of which version you choose. The Collection Challenges will remain the same, the bonuses are the same, and so on. There are only two major differences between the versions and one minor difference.

  • Some Pokemon attracted to Incense will be exclusive to one version or the other
  • Each version has a list of Pokemon with boosted shiny odds
  • There are exclusive avatar items for each version; a Ho-oh T-shirt for Gold, a Lugia T-shirt for Silver

Each version will have certain exclusive Pokemon, which will be attracted to Incense. In order to complete the Collection Challenges, you’ll need to trade someone with the opposite version for their exclusive Pokemon.

The following Pokemon will only spawn for Trainers with the Gold version:

  • Teddiursa
  • Gligar
  • Spinarak
  • Mantine

The following Pokemon will only spawn for those with Silver:

  • Delibird
  • Ledyba
  • Skarmory
  • Phanpy
