Pokemon BDSP Mystery Gift is exactly how you remember it, and very much to its benefit. The Pokemon series has long employed this technique of delivering post-launch content to its fans, dishing out free Pokemon, cosmetics and more to fans willing to seek out the necessary codes.

But, as ever, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl won't let you have the codes right away, and demands you earn the ability to claim them - but how exactly do you do it? Here's our guide to Pokemon BDSP Mystery Gift codes, and how to unlock the opportunity to claim them.

Pokemon BDSP Mystery Gift: How To Unlock It

When you start the game you will notice that the Mystery Gift function isn't available by default and you will instead have to play through a few hours of the game before you are able to unlock it and receive gifts online. There are two methods to unlock the Mystery Gift function with one being quicker than the other, but it doesn't really matter which method you choose as both can be done within a few hours of gameplay. 

Here are the methods:

Pokemon BDSP Mystery Gift Unlock: Method 1

You will naturally unlock the Mystery Gift function by simply playing the game. To unlock the option to receive Mystery Gifts you will need to acquire the third Gym Badge. This is done at Veilstone City which is located on the northeast part of the Sinnoh region map. The third Gym Leader is a Fighting-type trainer, which means it would be smart to add some Pokemon with Normal, Ice, Rock, Dark, and Steel moves to your party. After defeating the third Gym Leader Maylene at Veilstone City you will unlock the Mystery Gift function.

Pokemon BDSP Mystery Gift Unlock: Method 2

If you don't want to wait that long it can be unlocked shortly after earning the first Gym Badge in Oreburgh City. Once this is done, head back to Jubilife City and go into the Jubilife TV Station which can be found on the west part of the city. 

Once inside, head to the third floor and a character will ask you some questions about your favourite TV shows. If you choose the 'EVERYONE HAPPY WI-FI CONNECTION' option you will unlock the Mystery Gift function.

Pokemon BDSP Mystery Gift: How To Redeem Codes

Once you've unlocked the Mystery Gift function, follow these steps to begin redeeming codes.

• Open the menu in Pokemon BDSP by pressing the X button.
• Select the Mystery Gift option on the bottom right of the list.
• Input the code to claim your free gift.
