New Pokemon Snap - Alternate Routes
New Pokemon Snap is delighting players worldwide who are being allowed to live their dream of becoming a Pokemon Photographer. However, certain routes on the many courses the game offers are seemingly locked from the NEO-ONE - but we have all the information you need to sneak into these secret paths and snap some new and amazing Pokemon!
These awesome hidden locations provide new creatures to photograph, as well as new environments to explore, and perhaps interesting situations to discover.
New Pokemon Snap - Alternate Routes
There are many hidden routes in New Pokemon Snap, all with their own special methods needed to unlock.
These secret and alternate paths may need any combo of items or ways to unlock them, including throwing Illumina Orbs and Flufffruit at certain Pokemon, or using the Music Player to move them or stimulate a scenario.
Click to enlargeFlorio Nature Park - Alternate Routes
There are two hidden routes in the first course of New Pokemon Snap - Florio Nature Park. This is where you learn the ropes of the game, and begin your adventure. Certain alternate routes can only be unlocked once you've reached a certain Research Level, or during Night or Day, so we'll make sure to include those.
Bidoof Dam (Day - Research Level 3)
Scan around the lake, before the completed Bidoof dam to uncover an alternate route that goes right next to the dam. Bonus - if you throw a fluffruit inside the dam, a Bidoof will pop out, allowing you to snap it (also a Lentalk Request)!
Pinsir and Heracross (Night - Research Level 2)
Scan the pile of earth that Pinsir hides under, and use your Music Player to wake it. Later on in the course, Pinsir and Heracross will be playfighting, unlocking a minor alternate route, allowing you to snap the wholesome situation.
Founja Jungle - Alternate Routes
Founja Jungle is home to the Lental region's tropical Pokemon and has many new creatures and environments to discover.
Behind The Waterfall (Day or Night - Research Level 2)
Reaching behind the waterfall requires both Day and Night versions of the course to be Research Level 2, and the Music Player function unlocked. Again, the Liepard is a key ingredient of this method, as is a sleeping Pikipek. Both sleeping on a rock side by side before the waterfall, you'll need to play Music to force the Pikipek to awaken and fly away - where the Liepard will then chase it, and open a secret route behind the waterfall, where new and interesting Pokemon are resting.
Ancient Ruins (Night)
Getting to this alternate route is tough, and requires you to annoy the Liepards on this course (provided you've run this course before and scanned the Ancient Ruins). Throw Fluffruit or Illumina Orbs at every leopard-Pokemon you see, including one behind you - before you reach the Ancient Ruins. Hopefully, your endless barrage of throwables will irritate Liepard enough to knock the NEO-ONE, sending you onto the alternate route.
Swamp (Night)
Before reaching the lake, use an Illumina Orb to light up the nearby Crystabloom, which will then reveal footprints. Scan to expose the secret route.

Private Beach (Day)
This hidden route is unlocked by default, just scan in time when prompted by one of your photographer pals.
Maricopia Reef - Alternate Routes
Pelipper Rock (Day)
Near the end of the course, a prompt to scan will appear - go down the alternate route and catch a glimpse of a flock of Pelipper.
Lental Seafloor - Alternate Routes
Illumina Spot (Research Level 2)
The Clawitzer is going to help you on this hidden route. When you first spot the crustaceous Pokemon, throw an Illumina Orb at it, then scan to reveal a hidden path to the Illumina Spot.
Lugia's Chamber (via Illumina Spot)
After unlocking the Illumina Spot, you'll reach a large cavern where you'll find a Lanturn. Throw an Illumina Orb at it, and keep lobbing them until it becomes wedged between a couple of Frillish. When the Lanturn swims away, scan and unlock the secret route.

Oasis (Research Level 2)
Enter the Sweltering Sands course and scan when advised to unlock this route.
Fireflow Volcano - Alternate Routes
Crystal Room (Research Level 2)
This route is reached automatically once you reach Research Level 2 at Fireflow Volcano; so just sit back and relax!
Shiver Snowfields - Alternate Routes
Behind The Snow Wall (Day - Research Level 2)
Photographing the Sandlash each time it appears, which will provoke it to dig through a snow wall, revealing a previously blocked path for you to scan and follow.
Showfield Shore (Night)
After unlocking the hidden route above, follow it until you witness an angry Crabominable about to punch a tree. Throw an Illumina Orb at it to super-charge its punch. The snow from the tree will fall on an Abomasnow and disturb it. Follow the yeti creature until you see a Froslass, upon which photographing it will uncover a new secret route to scan and follow.
Elsewhere Forest - Alternate Routes
Autumn/Winter Seasonal Routes
Play the Trevenant on your right a little tune from your Music Player, which will prompt a scan that opens up a hidden route. When the Espeon comes into view, thrown a Fluffruit to access Autumn, or Illumina Orb to access Winter, or nothing at all to access Summer.
Plains Path To The Valley (Research Level 3)
Throw Illumina Orbs at Crystablooms in the fog to draw a Deerling out of its hiding place, and light up the Crystabloooms in its path. Guiding the Deerling to the end will prompt a scan to unlock a new route permanently.
Research Camp - Alternate Routes
Different Starting Point
Once two out of three Illumina Spots in the Lental Seafloor, Fireflow Volcano, or Elsewhere Forest courses are completed, this hidden route will open up, letting you choose your starting point at the Research Camp.
Lab Interior
Complete all three Illumina Spots scan the decking when prompted to access an alternate route that takes you through the inside of the Research Lab.

Rimstone Path (Research Level 3)
Look out for a Gengar Portal, and either throw a Fluffruit or Illumina Orb into it to activate. The Gengar will then frighten a nearby Crobat. When you reach the purple pools, the Crobat will not interact with the Rampardos there, enabling you to scan and enter an alternate path.
Underground Flowers (Research Level 3)
When you spot a Mawlie and a Carbink together, use an Illumina Orb to activate the Crystabloom nearby, prompting a Dancie to reveal itself. A second Mawlie will then take a previously hidden path.
