Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is perhaps the most anticipated game of the year for PlayStation fans, and with the release date approaching, we now know more than ever about this web-slinging sequel.

Keep reading as we go through everything we know about the game so far, including the Marvel's Spider-Man 2 release date, all of the trailers, and any gameplay details we've been teased with.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 release date

The Spider-Man 2 release date was confirmed to be October 20 at the Summer Game Fest 2023 on June 8.

The game will only be available on PS5 as a Sony exclusive. That means players still rocking a PS4 will need to upgrade or they'll be left behind on this release.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 trailer

So far, we only have two trailers for Marvel's Spider-Man 2. The first trailer was entirely in CG, and confirmed the appearance of Miles Morales, Peter Parker, and Venom in the sequel.

The second trailer we got delved much deeper into the gameplay systems and some of the story elements of Marvel's Spider-Man 2. First shown at the PlayStation Showcase in May 2023, it only furthered our excitement for the new title.

Our latest trailer showcases the ability to switch between Miles and Peter instantly, new traversal options like the 'Spider Wings', and new missions that include other Spidey villains. Check it out below:

Although Insomniac has been tight-lipped about what we can expect to see in the sequel, the trailers do provide a few insights. The main one of course is that Venom will be in Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

Furthermore, we can clearly see in the gameplay trailer that Peter Parker is utilising the Symbiote suit, and it's given him some pretty gnarly powers. On top of that, it seems to be affecting his personality in a big way, making him more aggressive than normal. We can't wait to see how this dynamic plays with Miles.

With the new Symbiote Suit, we also have a new set of combat abilities for both Parker and Miles. Players will be able to play as both Spider-Men, although we don't yet know if this will be possible on the fly. It's more likely that we'll be able to change at specific story moments.

Along with the appearance of Venom and both Spider-Man and Miles Morales, we now know that Kraven the Hunter will play a major role in the story. It appears that he's come to New York City to hunt new prey, and Dr Kurt Connors is at the top of his hit list.

Kraven the Hunter, also known as Sergei Kravinoff, is a professional game hunter and mercenary in the comics. Known for his vicious pursuit of Spider-Man, he's equipped with speed and strength-altering potions and animal-themed weapons.

In terms of changes to the world, we know that the play space has now been expanded to include the borough of Queens. This opens the possibility of more regions being available in the final game, including places like Brooklyn. To accommodate this expansion, new scenery has been added to the rivers surrounding Manhattan, so players can swing across the water with ease. There's also a new wingsuit option to glide longer distances, which looks extremely neat.

Will Spider-Man 2 follow the previous games?

SPOILER WARNING Warning, spoilers ahead for Marvel's Spider-Man (2018).

Marvel's Spider-Man already set out the groundwork in exploring some of the most iconic characters in the Spider-Man franchise like Doc Ock, the Osborn Family, Kingpin, Vulture and more.

The game left us with the tantalising image of Harry Osborn suspended in a tank and surrounded by symbiote tendrils, hinting that Harry may fuse with Venom and become the next big enemy in the sequel.

Previously, Harry had been presumed to be exploring the world but was actually in declining health while suffering from the same fatal illness as his mother. Much of Marvel's Spider-Man centred around the crafting of the 'Devil's Breath' virus and Norman Osborne's attempts to revive his son.

We don't quite know if Harry Osborne will appear as Venom himself just yet, but he definitely plays a huge part in the story. We can hear Parker explain the Morales that Harry is in need of the medicine that they're chasing down the East River. So, it's safe to assume that the Symbiote will play a role at some point in the story.
