Now that Chapter 3 has begun, you'll be wondering how to slide in Fortnite. Fortnite introduced many new elements with its utterly stacked new chapter, and among them was a brand new traversal mechanic: sliding. This new feature has the ability to quicken your pace, as well as make the ultimate aggressive pushes. Want to become a sliding master? Here's everything you need to know about the slide, including how to slide in Fortnite and tips on how to use it.

How To Slide In Fortnite

First thing you'll want to know is how to slide in Fortnite. Luckily, the answer is quick and simple. All you have to do is hit the crouch button. For consoles this is clicking down on the right stick, while on PC you have to press LCtrl. You have to have some form of movement, otherwise you are just going to crouch, so either do it while running or when you are landing from a jump. The whole method is somewhat similar to what is possible in Apex Legends, allowing you to cover large distances with speed.

Once you have learned how to slide in Fortnite, you need to familiarise yourself with the new feature. While the default defence mechanism in the battle royale can be to build 'til kingdom come, the slide is a pretty great way to push back on the aggressor, or even slip away. As such, you shouldn't forget to use the slide regularly, even just for traversal. It isn't just faster on hills, but you are a smaller target as well. The steeper the hill the faster you will slide, and if you want that additional distance, then jumping just before you slow down will send you flying further. However, if you want to stop dead on your tracks, then just hit the slide button once more.

If you find yourself in a combat scenario, don't just use the slide to push or fall back. Instead, remember to use your weapons, whether that be reloading or firing. If you are applying the pressure a quick slide and reload, or even dealing a little bit of damage with your assault rifles before getting in close with a shotgun can be the perfect tactic. Unfortunately while you can use your weapons whilst sliding, the same cannot be said for healing items. Those you will need to remain still for so be sure to be all bandaged up before you go sliding into combat.

That's how to slide in Fortnite and all the tactics you should be deploying while using it. Looking for something a little more airborne? Check out our guide to the Fortnite Spider-Man location, to see how you can get your hands on a pair of web-shooters.
