FFXIV: Endwalker releases later this year (Fall, if the rumours are to be believed), but you can get a sneak peek of the game via the PlayStation 5 open beta!

Square Enix's iconic MMORPG series' latest expansion for Final Fantasy 14 is called Endwalker, which will be releasing on PS5, with an open beta starting soon.

FFXIV: Endwalker will resolve the ongoing saga of Zodiark, and the excitement is palpable among life-long fans of the FF series.

Final Fantasy 14 Open Beta Release Date

The open beta for FFXIV on PlayStation 5 is due to begin on April 13, 2021. It will be available to anyone who owns FFXIV for PS4, although we assume players will need an active subscription to participate.

The final Shadowbringers Patch (5.5) will also release on April 13, meaning new content will be available alongside new improvements.

How To Play The Final Fantasy 14 Open Beta

Want to try out the open beta? Here's how:

  1. Log into your PS5 account
  2. Visit the PlayStation Store and search up the Final Fantasy XIV store page
  3. Press the [...] button and select Final Fantasy XIV PS5 Upgrade Edition (Beta Version)
  4. When the download has completed, launch the game!

Not only will the FFXIV PS5 version include 4K resolution, increased frame rates, and a high-res interface (as revealed by Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda), it will also provide the "full experience" to both new and veteran players.

Anyone who owns Final Fantasy 14 for PlayStation 4 can upgrade their copy to a PS5 version for free! This isn't the first time Square Enix have brought joy to their fans with this method - they did it when the game moved from PlayStation 3 to 4, too.

The previous expansion, Shadowbringers, was released in 2019, meaning fans have been waiting quite a while for a new update, and new content.

The Final Fantasy 14 expansion, Endwalker, will be released in Fall 2021.
