Fortnite boasts around 350 million registered players in 2021, so it’s no surprise that some of those players are bad eggs and can be subject to bans for their behaviour. Whether that’s due to harassing other players, cheating/hacking, or simply disobeying the Code of Conduct, it can be disheartening to log on and find out your account is locked forever – especially when it’s not actually your fault.

To prevent that from happening, let’s go through some of the reasons why a Fortnite account could be banned, what happens, and what to do next.

Can you get banned on Fortnite for swearing?

The reasons for being banned from Fortnite are laid out on Epic Games’ Help Centre, and as long as they are adhered to, a ban shouldn’t be in your future.

Answering the question “why is my Fortnite account banned, and what can I do?”, the Help Centre answers that “Epic Games wants Fortnite to be a fun, safe, and fair environment for all of our players [and] every now and then, we have to ban players who break the Epic Games Code of Conduct in Fortnite.”

Bans are given out ranging from temporary to permanent and come with their own set of circumstances.

Temporary bans last up to 30 days and are given out when a player is “discovered doing something that is against the Code of Conduct or against the rules of a tournament.”

Permanent bans are just that – permanent. Permanent bans in Fortnite are given when cheating or hacking is suspected.

What happens when you get banned on Fortnite?

Fortnite fans who may be wondering how to tell if they’ve been banned need look no further, but need to be careful before just accepting the fact, as it may not be true.

If you’ve done nothing that could possibly get you a temporary (or even permanent) ban, make sure to check the Fortnite Status Twitter account to make sure there isn’t an issue on the game’s end. Error messages including “You do not have permission to play Fortnite” can show up by accident and be resolved later on with patching.

If you do incur a temporary ban, simply wait out the 30 days, then get back on the Battle Bus.
