The Horizon Forbidden West Hunting Grounds are a great way to test yourself against the various machines found in the wilderness. Horizon Forbidden West features a menagerie of machines for you to find and hunt, and to improve those hunting skills, Hunting Grounds are dotted around the map to give you an extra challenge. For more info, here’s everything on Horizon Forbidden West Hunting Grounds and how to complete the trials within.

Horizon Forbidden West Hunting Grounds: The Daunt

The first set of trials are found in the hunting grounds at The Daunt. The first trial is the Tear Trial. To complete this, you must shoot the power cells off of a group of Scroungers and loot them.

The second trial is the Shock Trial. To complete this, use shock ammo on the power cells of Scroungers to chain Shock damage to other nearby machines.

The third trial here is the Shock and Trap Trial. For this one, you need to use Shock damage to stun enemies underneath traps set up in the area. Then shoot the traps to activate them.

For the next set of trials, head to the Plainsong hunting ground. The first trial is called the Silent Looting Trial. This is a stealth trial, you must loot three marked containers in the area without being seen by the machines.

The second trial is the Silent Strike Trial. Similar to the last one, but this time instead of avoiding the machines you need to take them down. Use the grass to your advantage, get close to the Burrower machines and take them out.

The final trial at Plainsong is the Silent Gliding Trial. For this one, you need to silently take down two machines, but this time from above. Use your glider and any high ground to get these silent takedowns and complete the trial.

Sheerside Mountains Hunting Grounds is your next destination. The first trial is the Frost Trial, a test in using frost damage. To complete this trial you must freeze three Bellowbacks, then destroy the Cargo Refining Sacs on their backs.

The second trial is the Shredder Catch trial. You will need a Shredder Gauntlet for this, but if you don’t have one you can buy one from the merchant at the Hunting Ground. The goal here is to hit two machines with a fully charged Shredder. When you throw a Shredder it will come back to you, catching the Shredder three times in a row will fully charge it, and a fully charged Shredder will explode on contact. Find two Bellowbacks to do this with, as they are less aggressive than the Rollerbacks, and the trial is done.

The third trial here is the Plasma Blast Trial. This trial requires a plasma weapon, which handily the nearby merchant also sells. The trial requires you to do plasma damage to a Rollerback until the Plasma Blast state is reached. This is similar to freezing or setting enemies on fire. Use a plasma weapon on the Rollerback until the effect starts, then stop shooting. After a time, the Plasma Blast will explode. Do this twice to complete the trial.

Finally, we have the Raintrace Hunting Grounds. Our first trial here is the Shock and Remove Trial. This is pretty simple, use shock damage to cause the Shocked state on a Tremortusk. While it is incapacitated, use a weapon with good tear damage to break the tusks off of the Tremortusk.

Trial two here is the Mounted Combat Trial. This one requires that you have the Clawstrider Override. If you haven’t got this yet, it is acquired by completing the IOTA Cauldron. To complete this trial, you need to destroy two machines while riding the Clawstrider. Avoid the Tremortusk, as it is likely to destroy your Clawstrider. There are two other Clawstriders in the area, one on either edge of the area. Destroy them both to complete this trial.

The third and final trial is the Heavy Weapons Trial. This one asks you to destroy a machine with the cannon of a Tremortusk. Bring a high tear damage weapon and use it to strip one of the cannons off the back of the Tremortusk. Pick up the cannon, then use it to finish the Tremortusk to complete the trial.

That is everything you need to know to complete all of the Horizon Forbidden West Hunting Ground Trials. For more on helpful tips, check out our guide on all of the Horizon Forbidden West enemies.
