We got a closer look at the Halo Infinite campaign in a recent video from 343 Industries. As we approach the release of the first new Halo game since 2015, we finally know more about what form its campaign will take - and more importantly, when it will actually release. Here’s everything we know about the Halo Infinite campaign including story details, player upgrades, and more.

Considering the delays of the game and notable silence on any news for the Halo Infinite campaign many believed that it wouldn’t launch alongside its free-to-play multiplayers. However, in a happy turn of events for Halo fans, the Halo Infinite campaign will launch at the same time as its multiplayer component on December 8, 2021.

The Halo Infinite campaign follows on from Halo 5, as Master Chief investigates what happened to Cortana. Spartan 117 finds himself on Zeta Halo, which is riddled with the Banished, and home to the Weapon, a new AI designed to lock down Cortana.

The focus of the Halo Infinite campaign will be Chief’s relationship with Cortana, which has remain a staple of the franchise since its very beginning. With Cortana essentially turning evil in Halo 5, we're sure there will be plenty of drama to come in the Halo Infinite campaign.

The Halo Infinite campaign will be the biggest the series has ever seen, and that isn’t just in length. The mysterious Zeta Halo will act as the main setting of Infinite, and will adopt an open world design. Players will be able to tackle outposts and strongholds in any order they wish. 343 Industries never outright stated that the Halo Infinite campaign would be open world, however we got a look at a new map system that strongly suggests it will be.

With this approach, players will be able to take on the Banished in any way they wish, with a diverse range of options. You’ll be able to call in an array of vehicles from Warthogs to Wasps, taking on strongholds from any angle, or completely bypassing them. This gave the Halo Infinite campaign overview trailer plenty of opportunity to try out the incredibly fun grapple mechanic.

While previous Halo games moderated upgrades through their weapons, the Halo Infinite campaign is going to do things a little differently. Players will be able to acquire new skills and upgrade Master Chief.

Abilities cover anything from Chief’s shield core to his grapple hook, with each area having multiple ability variations and upgrade potential. We got to see thrusters in action, which allowed the Chief to dash from side to side to avoid incoming fire. This new approach will allow players to design a Master Chief with skills and ability more aligned with their playstyle across the Halo Infinite campaign.

While the familiar faces of the Banished will be showing up in the Halo Infinite campaign, there will also be some new aliens to pulverise with a gravity hammer. The campaign overview video stated that multiple new enemies would debut in Infinite but only revealed the agile flying Skimmers.

With Halo Infinite’s new open level design, it will allow for all new ways to attack the series favourites. However, new enemy types will help push us forward into what 343 described as the “new era of Halo”.
