If you are jumping into the adventures of Star-Lord and co. for the first time, then we're with the very best Guardians of the Galaxy tips. As one of the biggest surprises of 2021, we loved delving into the riotous tale of this new take on the Guardians of the Galaxy, which puts you in the shoes of Peter Quill and dumps you in a multitude of difficult situations. At times there can be a lot to take in during this expansive adventure, so we've cooked up some of the best Guardians of the Galaxy tips, so you can save the galaxy in style.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Tips: Upgrade Rapid Reload First

When Star-Lord's blaster overheats, it takes a really long time to get back into the fight. You then find yourself running around in circles, avoiding enemies, and waiting for those bars to go back down. To avoid this, make sure Rapid Reload is the first Perk you assign Peter when you have the components for it. Doing so unlocks a Gears of War-style reload minigame where, if you press the right button while the meter is in the green zone, the guns automatically cool down while shooting a boosted round at an enemy. Many of Peter's Perks are good, but in the early game, Rapid Reload is essential.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Tips: Explore Everything To Find Secrets

The sarcastic banter between the characters is one of the highlights of Guardians of the Galaxy, but sometimes it may talk you out of checking out a suspicious corridor or an area off the beaten path. Don't let them discourage you; explore away. Usually, those secluded areas hide components for upgrades or, more importantly, a new outfit for the team. Even if a teammate tells you a path is a dead end, and it likely will be, check it out anyway. You never know what you'll be missing if you don't check it out. Just be prepared to be the butt of a few jokes on the way back.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Tips: Don't Forget Your Team's Abilities

In the heat of battle, it's hard to think of every ability at your disposal, but here in Guardians of the Galaxy, you need to keep your fellow Guardians in mind. Each one of them has abilities essential to overcoming the hordes of alien enemies. Even their perks at the start of the game are important, with Gamora's powerful sword slice and Groot's vines locking enemies in place being particular highlights. As you unlock more abilities using earned Ability Points the team becomes even more invaluable, making these commands even more important. The Guardians are a team after all, so don't forget to rely on your teammates.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Tips: Every Decision Counts

Throughout the story, you will be presented with dialogue options of varying importance, from settling small squabbles to making major decisions on what to do. Don't just blow through these dialogue decisions; put as much thought as the game allows into what you will say next. The story you get to see relies on the decisions being made, and you never know how things will change if you choose one way or the other. If things don't play out how you want, well, that's what save files are for.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Tips: Master The Elements

Star-Lord eventually gains the ability to shoot elementally-charged shots from his twin blasters. Just as we said before about your teammates, do not forget these exist! You would be amazed how much easier some fights become when you activate the elemental arms and use them against foes weakened to them. We're not talking about a slight bump in damage here; at one point an enemy who took over two dozen shots to die via regular blasts took just four with ice rounds. Remember the elements, and use them as you gain them.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Tips: Be Poised For Quick Time Events

There's a moment in Chapter 3 where the team is crossing a chasm on some wreckage and a cutscene is triggered. In that scene is a very quick, easily failed quick time event that will sneak up on you. Failing the event takes you back to the last checkpoint, meaning it's not a huge time loss, but it's still annoying to have to try this one moment over and over again. QTEs like this are hidden everywhere in GotG, even during combat via Call to Action attacks, so keep an eye out for them at all times.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Tips: Win The Bet With Rocket

If you're a trophy hunter, this tip is for you: in the first chapter of the game, Rocket makes a bet with Peter. It's completely obvious when the bet is on, so without getting into spoilers you'll know exactly what we're referring to when it happens. This bet is winnable, it's not some prank being played on Peter where he loses no matter what (though that would fit into a story like this). Check every corner and in every direction, find the "targets," and shoot them to win the bet. You'll know when the bet is over and you've won when you hear the beautiful trophy sound further into the mission.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Tips: Huddle Up... As A Last Resort

The Huddle Up mechanic is fun, unique, and a perfect representation of what makes the Guardians great. Huddling up and then wreaking havoc with classic rock blaring in the background is always a good time. That said, it should only be activated in the most dire of circumstances when every teammate is incapacitated and Peter is low on health. You don't want to waste such a boon on enemies you can defeat without it, so save it for when the team needs a quick shot of musical adrenaline.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Tips: Use Ability Points On The Team First

You might be tempted to use the Ability Points you receive on Star-Lord first to get him some extra abilities. Don't do that; be the thoughtful leader Quill thinks himself to be and spend them on the team first. The abilities of your teammates go much farther in a fight than Peter's output, so building them up into unstoppable killing machines will serve you much better in the long run. There will be time to get to Peter's kit, but take care of the team first.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Tips: Check The Time

Finally, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy does offer an auto-save feature during its 16-chapter campaign, but you might be the kind of person who likes to save on top of those autosaves every so often. If so, the pause menu offers a nifty timer letting you know how long it's been since the last time your game was saved. If that timer gets too high for your liking, drop a quick save right then and there and then continue adventuring.
