Fortnite Chapter 2 - Season 5 Challenge Guide: Week 15
We’re in the home stretch of Chapter 2 - Season 5, and it’s time to get sentimental. Week 15’s challenges serve as a final ode to Season 5. Players must tunnel through the desert biome and utilise all types of NPCs. Who knows if friendly NPCs will be around next season or if the desert biome will still exist. Thims may be our last chance to experience this part of Fortnite. Week 15 encourages us to engage with these new features at least one more time.
Like Week 14, Week 15’s challenges offer double XP. Each challenge grants an enormous 40,000 XP. There’s just one week left in Chapter 2 - Season 5, so it’s crucial that players take advantage of this opportunity. Now is the time to make a final push for the max season level of 225.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at our Challenge Guide below for an in-depth breakdown of every single Week 15 challenge and the best course of action for completing them.
Distance travelled through sand (500) - 40,000 XP
The Week 15 challenges begin in the desert biome. Players will need to travel 500 total metres through the sand.
To start this challenge, players must bury themselves under the sand. To do this, simply stand still anywhere in the desert. After a few moments, your character will sink under the sand. From here, just tunnel around under the sand on the path of your choosing. Avoid enemy players or anything that will cause your character to pop out of the sand. 40,000 XP will be awarded once you’ve transverse a total of 500 metres.
Spend 5 seconds within 20 metres of enemies while sand tunnelling (5) - 40,000 XP
This challenge goes hand in hand with the first challenge. While under the sand, players must spend a total of five seconds next to an enemy player. Seconds will only be counted if you are within 20 metres of an enemy.
The ability to ping is a very useful trick for this challenge. The game will tell you how many metres you are away from a pinged location. With this in mind, ping as close to an enemy’s position as possible. Now you know how close you need to get for this challenge to count.
Players will need to channel their inner Matrix skills when it comes time to approach the enemy. Any damage taken will launch your character above the sand. Don’t panic; just build some walls and try to submerge yourself under the sand again. Five seconds feels like forever when you have an enemy bearing down on you and no way to fight back. Dodge the bullets as best you can until your five seconds is up.
Another tip for this challenge is to wait under the sand and look for a group of players fighting. Immediately push to the fight the second you hear gunshots. But instead of shooting, just get up close to them while tunnelled underground. They’ll probably be too distracted to shoot at you. This is an easy way to get your five seconds in.
Spend Bars (500) - 40,000 XP
Gold Bars are a new form of currency introduced in Chapter 2 - Season 5. Players can use Gold Bars to buy new weapons, upgrade weapons, reveal chests and enemies, and hire NPCs as bodyguards. Gold Bars can be acquired by opening chests, defeating enemies, and completing quests and bounties as directed by different NPCs.
For this challenge, players must spend 500 total Gold Bars. The bars can be spent on any of the various services offered by NPCs. All that matters is that the player spends 500 total Bars.
Keep in mind - the next four challenges of Week 15 require players to spend Gold Bars on different specific services. So, this challenge will complete naturally as you finish out Week 15’s challenges. Do the final four challenges first, then come back to this one if you still need to spend more Gold Bars.
Purchase Item from a Character (1) - 40,000 XP
Many of the NPCs spread across the Fortnite map will sell items to players in exchange for Gold Bars. The most notable of these items is Chapter 2 - Season 5’s Exotic weapons. There are ten Exotic weapons in total. These weapons sell for varying prices ranging from 400-600 Gold Bars. Purchasing any of these weapons will complete this challenge.
However, there is a sneaky way to complete this challenge without spending hundreds of Gold Bars. Farmer Steel at Steel Farm sells Corn for just ten Gold apiece. Similarly, Sunflower at The Orchard will sell you Cabbage for 10 Gold Bars each. This is a great option for players on a budget. Stay frugal and save your Gold Bars for the next few challenges.
Upgrade a weapon (1) - 40,000 XP
Another service offered by NPCs is weapon upgrading. A chunk of the NPCs on the map will upgrade weapons to a higher rarity level in exchange for Gold Bars. The NPCs that offer this service are Kit, Beef Boss, Brutus, Fishstick, Tomato Head, Reese, The Reaper, Konder, and Sparkplug.
The cost to upgrade weapons is as follows:
- Common to Uncommon - 50 Gold Bars
- Uncommon to Rare - 150 Gold Bars
- Rare to Epic - 250 Gold Bars
- Epic to Legendary - 350 Gold Bars
As you can see, the lower rarity the weapon, the cheaper the upgrade. Keep this in mind if you’re low on Gold. The challenge does not specify a rarity requirement, so feel free to upgrade your lowest rarity gun and save the Gold.
Get intel from a character (1) - 40,000 XP
Gathering intel from a character is a unique request because there’s only one NPC on the map that can provide this service. Bunker Jonesy will reveal some top secret information when questioned by players.
Bunker Jonesy has two spawn locations. The first is on the south end of Camp Cod. The other spawn location is inside the large wood cabin above Shipwreck Cove. Talk to Bunker Jonesy and ask him a few questions. This challenge will complete when the conversation ends.
Hire a character (1) - 40,000 XP
The final challenge of Chapter 2 - Season 5 asks players to hire an NPC as a bodyguard. A few of the NPCs that players can hire include Mave, Mancake, Remedy, Doggo, and Bandolier.
It costs 100 Gold Bars to hire an NPC. Players can collect these Bars via chests, quests, bounties, and as loot from defeated enemies. With 100 Gold Bars on hand, visit a hireable NPC. Pay them for their service, and the challenge will complete.
